Can't remember SC's classifications, but I think they do AAAA, AAA and combine AA & A into one.

Nope, SC now has four classifications for boys and girls track. They do some field events and relays on Friday night and then they go all-day Saturday. I love covering the state track meet ... I like to keep busy. Only problem is it always rains for a bit on Friday or Saturday, so you almost have to expect a delay of some sort. Last year it rained on Friday night and it was delayed about an hour and a half.

Wisconsin does it ... Divisions 1, 2 and 3 on Friday and Saturday in La Crosse.

One big cluster****.

I used to do Clerk of Course work for that event, usually in the smaller classes.

Missed running in it twice, by one spot each time.

Kentucky does a Friday-Saturday for all three classes. Prelims and selected field finals on the first day, finals the second day.

State was held at a Lexington high school last year instead of at the University of Kentucky, but a lot of people preferred the high school because of better parking, more seating, more room, more restaurants close by and the media work area was indoor and air conditioned instead of outdoor under/in a tent.

I think it is moving to the University of Louisville's track facility in the next 2-3 years, which is an easy 45 minute drive for me.

Which high school in Lexington has the facility to host it?

Lexington Paul Dunbar HS held State last year and will do so again this year.

I've covered State four times (three at UK, one at Dunbar) and I prefer Dunbar.

Although I can see where the kids think it is "beneath" them to have State at a high school instead of the state's flagship institution.

But I think U of L will be a nice host site in the future, and Western Kentucky is upgrading its facilities and putting in a bid as well.

It's also always the same weekend as the Byron Nelson, meaning I never get to go hang out at the world's largest outdoor singles bar.

Paul Dunbar is a way beter facility to host than even UL. Plenty of parking and good facilities. The parking situation and the numbre of kids and tents and all that at Louisville will be interesting.

The worst thing about the Ohio state trsasck meet is the people that work there are complete assholes. But having it at Columbus instead of Dayton was a good move.

Michigan has eight divisions (four boys, four girls) at different sites within the Grand Rapids metro area. One division (boys and girls) is at Grand Valley State, and so forth.

It's not quite a cluster **** being split up, but you have to make sure you have four reporters available. And there's usually baseball/softball districts that day, along with tennis and golf state finals.

I can think of Kansas and Nebraska.

If you are within ear shot of Cessna Stadium in Wichita, KS, the 24th and 25th of May.....do yourself a favor and go.

Unbelievable sight.

Wyoming has all four classes' state meet (boys and girls, so it's actually eight different state meets) at Natrona County High School in Casper every May (it's the most central location and a decent facility for that event). Three days of hauling ass from one end of the event site to the other trying to get everything covered.

Actually, Wyoming's is all at Kelly Walsh High School. Right city, wrong school.

At least there's always a chance for snow. That's always fun.
