Cubs, Indians, Rockies, Red Sox are the early leaders for pitchers and catchers reporting, today. The rest of the teams report in the next few days.

Last month a friend gave me the Neil Leifer book of baseball photos. I wrote something meshing Neil's baseball photos with some of the baseball photos I've taken over the years. If you love baseball, or know someone who loves baseball, it's a great present.

http://incrediblekulk.blogspot.com/2013/01/vignettes-from-vermont-26-days-till.html

Who here wants to share some of their baseball photos?

And, of course, this thread is all things Spring Training 2013.

Opening Day is 49 days away.

This site, and twitter feed, is a must-visit during spring training.

First rueful chuckle of the spring comes via this tweet from the AJC's David O'Brien:

RT @ajcbraves: Chipper's old locker in #Braves clubhouse, which Smoltz had before that, is now occupied by Dan Uggla.

Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero has less-than-kind things to say about ex-teammate Trevor Bauer:

http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-baseball/21692896/miguel-montero-has-strong-words-for-trevor-bauer

"When you get a guy like that and he thinks he's got everything figured out, it's just tough to commence and try to get on the same page with you. ...

"Since day one in Spring Training I caught him and he killed me because he threw about 100 pitches the first day ... the next time he threw I saw him doing the same thing. He never wanted to listen.

...

"He's got his ways, and it's tough to change it. Good luck to (Indians catcher) Carlos Santana there."

I assume they're breaking into afternoon programming on all the Boston TV stations because of this.

The annual wonders of spring -- crack of the bat, smell of the grass, Pablo Sandoval going in for more conditioning.

And now this:

@hankschulman: Cain hobbled off the mound looking like he was in a lot of pain as the ball deflected. #sfgiants.

Stupid ass pig****er Sterling of course goes into the typical-fatass-broacaster-who-hasn't-played-a-real-sport-in-40-years song and dance about how Granderson was drama-queening it up, "bending over like it's some horrible injury," "in the olden days nobody bent over like that after getting dinged in the hand."

Of course all traces of the imbecile soliloquy have scrubbed from the internet. Last night on the radio highlight shows they played the clip and hurriedly added, "It must be noted at the time Sterling didn't know Granderson was injured."

In other words, "here's the reason the stupid **** was talking like a stupid ****."

In the interim of course I am sure the Yankee Powers that be decided, "*******, this sound clip makes Sterling sound like a complete ****ing idiot, better call MLB and get it scrubbed off all the sites."

Of course if Sterling wasn't a complete ****ing buffoon in the first place, he wouldn't make snarky/dimissive comments after players get hurt, but he is, so he does.

Fantastic story by Adam Kilgore on Adam LaRoche and his 11-year-old son Drake.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/for-adam-laroche-nationals-spring-training-is-take-your-son-to-work-day-every-day/2013/02/25/5c313814-7f95-11e2-a350-49866afab584_story.html

Drake is at the park every day during spring training and most days during the season. What about school, you might ask?

“We’re not big on school,” LaRoche said. “I told my wife, ‘He’s going to learn a lot more useful information in the clubhouse than he will in the classroom, as far as life lessons.’ ”

He attends public school in Kansas during the winter and has a private tutor during spring training.

Pretty awesome.

Rochey must be off his ADHD meds again.

Yesterday Bruce Bochy called on his son Brett with one out and the bases loaded. It was the first time Bruce had an opportunity to bring his son into a game. Brett allowed a two-run double and a three-run homer to the first two batters.
