I was at work last Friday and checked Facebook and saw that I had a message request from a cousin I had not talked to in years. My Mom died when I was 9 and this cousin's Mom was my Mom's twin sister. We drifted apart as we were in different parts of the country and pretty different people.

I responded to my cousin and went on with my day. Took our daughter to climbing where my wife joined us after being out of town for work. I was showing her my cousin's Facebook pics to show her what my Mother would have looked like as a 75 year old, turns out that aunt died a year ago.

We go out for a dinner and my wife is driving me back to my car. Pulled out my phone and my cousin had updated her Facebook. It was an article from their small town newspaper showing a family reunion with a long lost cousin whose mother had given her up for adoption and had since found out that her birth mother had died. Turns out I have a half sister who has been looking for me since 2004. Talked to my cousin that night and my sister the next day. I also have a brother who was given up for adoption before my parents were married.

Lots of crazy conversation and emotion over the weekend. Going back to my home town to meet my sister and brother in 8 days. Going from an only child to having 2 siblings has been a great blessing. I am hoping the emotion of this can turn itself into a great relationship.

TL/DR - Mom liked to party and gave up 2 kids before her and my Dad met.

Great story, especially on Thanksgiving!

Wow, that's great. I'm adopted myself. While I haven't gone the reunion route, I think one of the biggest fears that people who do have is that nobody on the other end cares.

That is, you do this long emotional search and it turns out that your (newish) half-siblings are indifferent. Or worse, they resent you and your very existence and want absolutely nothing to do with you. That sure doesn't sound like the case here. Best of luck.
