Nice bounce back start off the DL for Jeremy Bonderman, throwing eight scoreless.

Smoltz pitches against the Mets on TBS tonight for your viewing pleasure...

Is Torii Hunter on pace to set a personal record for HRs? He's gotta be, right?

Easily.

He's also on pace for a record # of SB's, IIRC.

EDIT:

Hunter's on pace to hit 41 HR -- Previous career high was 31 last season.

Also on pace to steal 30 bases -- I think he came out and said he would steal 30 this year -- with a previous career high of 23 (twice).

In the top of the 5th in Baltimore, the Orioles and Blue Jays have hit into a combined 7 double plays today. Many of them were of the 6-4-3 or 5-4-3 variety, but one of them was a fly out to right followed by a laser from Nick Markakis while Lyle Overbay tried to take third.

Not vintage Glavine, by any means.

Ahh, he struggled, but he did his job. Leaving down 2-0 in the 7th isn't a bad outing, by any stretch. Mets offense couldn't touch Smoltz ... not that I mind. Now that Glavine's out, I don't have to be conflicted. :)

Neither do I. Glavine left. Smoltz stayed. No conflict.

Glavine's still my favorite pitcher of all time. That doesn't change just because the Braves refused to guarantee that fourth year.

This just in (OK, it's been "in" for a while): Danys Baez sucks.

Smoltz is just awesome. Consistently awesome.

Gotta think that the 200 wins-150 saves combo is going to put him in the Hall of Fame without any doubt.

Assuming he doesn't have more than 20-30 wins left in him, that along with his amazing postseason record (15-4, 2.65, 4 SV in 40 appearances, 27 starts) should be enough.

And he's obviously near the top compared to the other best pitchers of his era. If you've got to get an out at any time in the ballgame ... 1st inning, 9th inning, whatever ... Smoltz surely has to be one of the top guys you'd want, right? Is there ever a time when he's on the mound and you don't feel like he has control of the game?

I think he's a first ballot Hall of Famer ... but I'm wrong a lot.
