Sports Journalists Forum – Media, Newsroom & Reporting Talk

Help Support Sports Journalists Forum:

The BCS system for determining the final two was superior to the current system to determine the Final Four. More data, more input, more quantifiable data. And yes - if they used the BCS system the same four teams would be involved (polls favored Bama, as did Sagarin - interestingly Anderson and Hester and Colley Matrix, the other two computer rankings used in the BCS had Wisconsin at 4, AH had UCF at 3, Oklahoma 5, OSU 6, Bama 7; CM went UCF 3, Oklahoma 7) - but I still like more data than a jury of 13 (with more than a few recusals) doing the "eyeball test" thing.

And I respect the career of Heather Dinich, but can't believe covering the committee is a full-time beat.

One of the committee members was on our local sports radio station the other day and said they let her in the room for about five minutes before the start of every meeting "mostly to take pictures." I'm sure she has access to the committee members at other times, though Hocutt is the only one who is ever quoted on the record.

Just finished catching up on this thread. Wow, it was a bit like:

Interesting that USC's Clay Helton is on there, considering he wasn't Pac-12 Coach of the Year. David Shaw of Stanford nabbed that one. Where do I go to vote for the UAB guy??

Paul Bryant, Jr. runs this, you'd have to ask him how to do a write-in vote.

Kim Helton was OC at UAB, and Tyson Helton, now at Tennessee, coached QB's, then RB's, at UAB as well.
