Too bad they don't reseed for the semis like they do in Division II as we get Montana-Montana State in the semis instead of the final.

There was a time 20-some years ago that Villanova was trying to build its program. They were heavily recruiting in SoCal powerhouse programs. They were looking for standout high school players who were a tick small or a step slow for the power college programs, but were damn good football players.

Villanova is headed in the opposite direction, to the Patriot League. The PL will be significantly stronger next year with Villanova and William & Mary joining former CAA stalwart Richmond there.
Boy, that can't be good news for our regional "meh" program, Bucknell. They just canned their coach.

Christy Mathewson Stadium is a great place to watch a ballgame, though. Right along US 15 in a bowl.

Drove past that stadium so many times on trips to and from WNY to Fairfax/Richmond, but have never stopped in. Even stayed in a hotel almost right across the street heading home after my junior year.

Part of my fascination with Mathewson. For all the success he had in baseball, he excelled.at football at Bucknell. Made Walter Campus All-America team as a drop kicker IIRC.

Villanova going all out to create a home field advantage Saturday. They also announced the dorms will be open until noon Sunday so students can go to the game before going on break.

Montana State v Montana was a far more entertaining game than any of the CFP games I've seen.

Ferris State won its fourth DII title in five years.

What a crummy job by ESPN sticking this championship on a Monday night as well. At least it goes off at the God-fearing hour of 6:30 Central.

It's actually a strong placement. People are accustomed to a Monday night football game in that time slot. Also gets it away from the NFL on Saturday/Sunday.

I guess I’m thinking of terms of people actually traveling to Nashville. Way easier to roll that trip up into a four-day New Years weekend than ask to take Monday and Tuesday off when Monday is America’s semi-official First Day Back in the Office.
