Running 2018 Winter Games thread

Twenty-two days before the Olympics in Pyeongchang, and I'm surprised there is no running thread already. Despite some pretty good story lines, there doesn't seem like there's much interest from the general public about these Games, either. I guess no NHL hockey players will do that.

Anyway, thought this was pretty interesting.

I have been watching a ton of biathlon on the Olympics channel, so I guess I'm ready to go. That, Super G and curling will probably be the only events I watch.

The one time every four years I have to give a damn about figure skating.

As great as the Shawn Whites and Lindsey Vonns are, what I find really captivating is someone who becomes an overnight sensation. The US won't do anything in figure skating. Wonder if any US gold medalist will take a knee.

I’d be pretty surprised on someone taking a knee.

1. The national anthem is a much better fit on the Olympic podium than it at your regular NFL game. I feel like taking a knee there is a much bigger statement.

2. You’ll have very few black athletes in position to make that decision.

We have the ability to watch the BBC networks, and their coverage during the Summer Games two years ago was far, far better than NBC. More sports, especially the less-watched ones (kayaking, archery, equestrianism, etc.), and less fluff. We are hoping that will be the case during these Games, too.

Yeah, I get like that too. When the Summer Games were in Australia, I found myself watching scull heats at 3:30 a.m. Why? Olympics!
