Eagles
Giants (The guy just survives)
Chiefs
Cardinals (I would not, just a bad GM decision at the QB position)
Rams
Bucs (WTF is going on with this team?)

Probably safe

Vikings
Panthers (no way, just give Cam consistency)

My thoughts

I don't understand why Leslie Frazier isn't mentioned more. That team could've started 4-0 and blew all four games, mostly from poor decisions and lack of motivation while having a lead. And it's been all downhill from there. He's been an utter failure.

I think the Philly job is the one that could pull Jon Gruden (hopefully) out of the booth. A ready-to-compete team that he can get all the credit for. Plus he always had a hard-on for Vick when he was in Tampa.

It's just nice that sanity has finally struck San Diego and Jacksonville. Long time coming for both of those coaches.

I'd be curious how many non Redskin-Cowboys-Raiders coaches have been fired after just one season...

I know there are a few. Ray Rhodes comes to mind. It doesn't happen often. I don't think it will happen to Frazier.

Rivera is the right guy in Carolina. They aren't losing by much this year.

The only reason I have Rivera on the list is maybe Carolina brings in someone who is more capable of turning Newton into an elite QB. I don't think they'll fire him either...

What has Newton not done to lead you to believe he is not on that path?

61% completion rate. Sacked 26 times. 12 TDs 14 INTs.

If his % gets to 67-68% and he can quit turning the ball over...he'll be there.

But he IS a rookie. Peyton threw, what, 20-plus picks his rookie year and turned out fine. Different QBs obviously, but both very talented.

If he can get the percentage down to 45 they will probably start to win games.

You can't just leave out his rushing td's.

I don't just leave them out. But as a passer, he's on his way, but not there or even close. He is better than predicted though!

When have the Cowboys fired a coach after one season?

Never mind, I know the answer -- never. Chan Gailey was closest, lasting two seasons. Even Dave Campo made it through three.

It's in the hands of OC Rob Chudzinski and Mike Shula, the QBs coach.

They're doing well. Cam Newton can certainly use some maturity and some better body language and such, but this franchise is no longer the Titanic post-iceberg. Why on Earth would anyone float out there that anything should happen to Ron Rivera?

What is this ... the Peter Vecsey theory of just throwing crap out there?

Legit question here:

Everyone is assuming Tony Sparano is the proverbial dead man walking, destined to be fired at season's end. But his team has won four of five, has just demolished a couple teams and should have beaten Dallas despite playing on the road in a short week. Even the losses just before their surge weren't ugly -- being the first victim of a Tebow miracle doesn't look so bad now.

Sparano has Matt Moore looking like an actual NFL quarterback, Reggie Bush looking like an actual full-service running back and a defense that has held its last seven opponents to less than 21 points (sixth in the league in scoring D and fifth against the run).

So is Sparano saving his job? If a coach can inspire a seemingly dead team to play this hard and look this good in a season that seemed lost, should he be fired?

The Dolphins have three winnable games among their last four (Philadelphia and the Jets at home, at Buffalo). If they win them all and finish 7-9 with momentum going into next season, would it be a good idea to start over with a new regime?

Les Steckel with the Vikings in 1984. Vietnam combat veteran.

I was thinking the same thing. They are not that far away. I'm always impressed when a guy can get a team playing when it seems like there's nothing to play for.

Of course, Mike Singletary did that too.

One name that should be working its way onto this list: Jason Garrett. That clock management yesterday was the kind of thing that makes you wonder, especially if they miss the playoffs -- which is a distinct possibility with two games left against the G-men.

Pete Carroll was canned after that collapse in favor of ... Rich Kotite. That should have been the clue that old man Leon had lost it.

I remember that. And I seem to recall that Carroll, despite a losing record that year, had gotten some credit that year for having the Jets headed in the right direction.
