The first thing I thought of when I saw this thread title was hot towels; the second was toast on a stick. God bless Larry "Bud," living or dead.

We all die.

That said, RIP, Larry. You provided me many-a-laugh growing up.

I remember the now online only channel Trio showed NBC Letterman reruns. You might be able to look the show up through their website. I think it's Trio.tv

Way to D_B by 13 posts, there, Xan.

I also laughed my ass off at the 'Bud in a bear suit' clip that's also on YouTube.

Um, wikipedia says so. :)

Also, I googled his name and a BLOG! Came up that credited the news to some "noted Letterman expert" and said a tribute was scheduled for last night, but Dave got sick. The rest of the week is pre-taped or reruns, so the BLOG! says it will likely be a tribute next week.

Take all that with a whole ****ing lick of salt. I'm just posting what i found with a google search, not putting my journalistic reputation on the line.

Bob Broene (at least I think that's how you spell it), get this nice man a jar of mayonnaise.

RIP, Bud.

Has there been any confirmation of this?

Just asking
Wikipedia did not say that this morning, but now does...wonder if one of us updated it?

Wikipedia now has Calvert's page locked from editing and doesn't have him dead yet.

There aren't many people who can make you laugh hysterically just by running out on stage...

RIP

Here's the confirmation...

Letterman sidekick Calvert DeForest dead at 85
By Dennis McLellan, Times Staff Writer

Calvert DeForest, the roly-poly character actor with the black-framed glasses and seemingly clueless delivery who developed a cult following as Larry "Bud" Melman on "Late Night with David Letterman" in the 1980s, has died. He was 85.

DeForest, who continued appearing with Letterman under his own name after the late-night comedian moved to CBS in the early 1990s and last appeared on the show in 2002, died Monday in a hospital in Babylon, Long Island, N.Y. after a long illness, said a spokesman for Worldwide Pants, which produces "The Late Show With David Letterman."

"Everyone always wondered if Calvert was an actor playing a character, but in reality he was just himself--a genuine, modest and nice man," Letterman said in a statement Wednesday. "To our staff and to our viewers, he was a beloved and valued part of our show, and we will miss him."
