I was convinced from the moment I saw that cool cardinal going to the basket on the cover of the Sports illustrated preview issue that Louisville was going to win it all that year. I loved that team -- Junior Bridgeman, Allen Murphy, Bill Bunton, Wesley Cox...He was an assistant on Wooden's great teams before going to Louisville. Would have beaten UCLA and played for the 1975 title if a 90% free-throw shooter could have made the front end of a 1-and-1 in the final 20 seconds. He missed, and Richard Washington scored to advance UCLA to face Kentucky.

They could have used an elephant for 'Bama. I think they did about as well as they could with the Hoosier.Heh. They can't do illustrations of a "Crimson Tide" or a "Hoosier."
Yes, I think that sounds like the guy. I remember watching that game on Saturday afternoon, can't remember who Kentucky beat, probably Kansas.I remember that game well. Was the free throw shooter Terry Howard? Looking up his stats, he was 28 for 29 at the line that year. But, watching it, you had the sinking feeling the pressure was going to get to him on that foul shot.
