RIP David Gergen

Former Nixon and Ford White House guy. Wrote Nixon's resignation letter because he said no one was left to do it. Went on to be the most boring PBS political commentator ever, which is a very high bar to cross.

Very much one of those milquetoast Moderates the media loves, but I don't mean that as a diss at all. He offered some of the best insight of White House operations as a pundit. Didn't feel the need to "score points" for this side or that side. We could use a Gergen these days on the cable chat shows, but I don't think people like him have served at 1600 since he did when he was a special advisor to Clinton after serving in the Ford, Reagan and HW Bush Administrations.
Heck, I don't even remember if he wrote a "tell-all" book that made waves.

I remember watching him give a speech while I was in college in Buffalo back in 1995. He was entertaining, not in the sense of telling a lot of humorous stories, but just in his ability to communicate the thought process of the leaders as they were making some of the toughest decisions of their respective presidencies and truly understanding what made them successful, effective and how they dealt with the times when they felt ineffective.
