Charles Grodin, Familiar Face From TV and Film, Dies at 86

Really sad news. One of my favorite comedic actors. I think he was vastly underrated. Besides his performances in some great comedic movies, his TV appearances over the years on Johnny Carson and David Letterman were pure gold. Thankfully some of them can still be found on YouTube. One example:

Had a small, but fantastic part in Catch 22. He rapes and kills a woman, and when Yossarian asks why, he indignantly answers something along to “I didn’t want her to say bad things about me.” Yossarian keeps imploring him to show remorse/confess as they hear MPs coming up the steps. When they arrest Yossarian for being out with permission and leave Grodin, he just gives the near perfect evil grin. It was like he was predicting the future with Trumpism where rapist/murderers walk free. He knew he wasn’t in trouble the entire time.

As a Seinfeld fan, I thought of the jar of barbecue sauce that looked like Charles Grodin that got broken before Jerry could use it on Grodin's show. RIP
