Probably. Imagine how big it would be if LeBron gets injured real bad. There's a lot of venom in Cleveland. It seemed like it used to be just a hard-luck pessimistic place now it seems more hateful. Where have you gone Joe Charboneau. What happened to the hopeful optimism and peace and love of Steven Keaton.

Almost all fans hate almost all owners. But it's interesting how completely we hate certain owners.

Cleveland fans will read this as the rip Art Modell thread.

I don't know of any that needed an invitation to do so.

The Rooneys are hated in Pittsburgh, Maras in New York, Kraft in NE?

Mixed feelings. I've moved on from the venom I felt toward the rat ******* years ago, but I'm satisfied that he never lived to see himself inducted into the football HOF. Terrible businessman. Terrible legacy.

I interviewed him at the owners' meetings in 2004 right before he stepped down.

I certainly understand why Cleveland fans hate him. But the NFL as we know it, probably would not have the revenue sharing that most believe has made it successful without Modell giving up the TV contract he had at early on... There was another owner (maybe Mara) who did the same thing.

RIP...

Hence the word 'almost.'

Would add that Jet fans are not sure what to think of Woody Johnson.

There was a time when Jet fans despised Leon Hess mainly because of failure on the field. What Jet fans did not realize was that he refused to do PSL's and insisted on keeping seat prices low so that families could afford to go to a game. When Hess owned the team Jet seat prices were always one of lowest in the league.

O'Malley and Modell become symbols not just of betrayal, but of everything wrong in their city and in their time.

Horace Stoneham on the other hand, does the same thing but is symbolic of nothing and largely forgotten by history. Al Davis does the same thing and is beloved.

Owners follow money. The end.

Goodness, the hatred some people have over the most insignificant things . . .

Losing your favorite sports team is hardly insignificant. Some of my fondest memories of my grandfather were going to Sacramento Kings games and now that the team is likely leaving, it makes me sadder than I should be.

Knowing how passionate Cleveland fans are, losing the Browns was devastating to most in that city. Imagine Pittsburgh without the Steelers, Green Bay without the Packers, Dallas without the Cowboys...

Yes, it's not the same as losing a loved one, but calling it insignificant is way too dismissive.

Or East Rutherford without The Nets.

Does Fort Wayne still mourn the Pistons? Does Pottsville still dream of the Maroons?

I wouldn't miss anything called the Maroons as long as I could drown my "sorrows" in fresh-brewed Yuengling. :)

And I feel bad for posting on this thread now that it's changed to RIP. I don't want him to rest, or feel peace. My abject hatred of him is one of the very few truly irrationally dominant things that I have.
