But Doyel himself admits that he might look like a hypocrite after somewhat defending Phil Martelli in much the same situation. And he's right. He does look like a hypocrite.

He looks like a hypocrite but at least he acknowledged what his regular readers might have been thinking when they read is Edsall take down.

O'Brien would have thrived under Leach.

Would be funny as hell if O'Brien ended up in Pullman.

Maybe a program should be able to create two lists for an outgoing transfer: the list where he can play immediately and the list that demands sitting out a year.

I don't know why kids can't play immediately after a transfer (something about keeping them in their place, I'm sure) but schools basically do what you suggested. They give the kid a list of places he/she is allowed to transfer, and a list where he/she is not. Usually ADs don't want kids following the former coach, or going to a local rival where they can haunt the former school for a year or two or three.

I don't know why the NCAA gets away with half the crap it does, but I'd imagine two rationale for making kids wait a year when transferring is 1) you'd have schools trying to poach players from each other if they could immediately transfer, and 2) all the best players would be trying to transfer every year to stacked teams on the bring of winning a National Championship.

I could see that kind of thing getting ugly in a hurry.

This is true, and I could see a valid concern with No. 2.

But at the same time, I don't see a problem with No. 1. Coaches get poached all the time, and no one whines about how the sport will collapse. Put a ban on coaches leaving if they have a contract, or make them only allowed at practices and recruiting and not at games, and that problem would be solved.

Frankly, I'd also like to see this QB get an injunction against the NCAA preventing any school or coach from preventing a transfer to wherever the kid wants to go to.

Good. According to the NCAA, college sports isn't a job, it's an extracurricular activity. So kids should be able to go to school and have it paid for even if they're not as good in the extracurricular activity as they were thought to be.

Randy Edsall is a compilation of every negative stereotype we heard about football coaches as kids: a control freak and bully whose arrogance is decidedly out of proportion with his mediocre career W-L record. Even in a profession filled with bad guys, he's a standout.

Kevin Anderson will eventually get what's coming to him for his extremely poor treatment of a personable Maryland alum -- while ticket sales indicated some Fridge fatigue among the fan base, you just don't fire the reigning ACC coach of the year -- who had taken an extremely mediocre football program and turned it into a winner again.

Anderson's worked very hard to make people forget Debbie Yow. But at least Mark Turgeon was a good hire.

I'm friendly with many, many Maryland alums/donors and none of them would **** on the AD if he was on fire.

Then when they jumped to the Big East, they made a bowl game the first year, and within a few years he was consistently winning 8 or 9 games a season. It's more than anyone could have hoped for from UConn. He may have been a **** the whole time. But winning is the great equalizer for a **** coach.

No one noticed until his departure. In fairness he actually did a good job in Conn and also received favorable press for the way he handled team after stabbing.

It was a good situation for him because expectations were low.

He came into Maryland with high expectations and many disappointed that Leach did not get the job.
