A workhorse in the Giants' bullpen for most of the 1970s. Worthy of the first class put on the Giants' Wall of Fame.

This is from 1973. The Giants were playing the Mets at Shea and he got the save. This was when NBC was telecasting Monday night games in the summer and Gowdy and Kubek were joined in the booth by Bobby Riggs, who a few months later would lose to Billie Jean King in straight sets at the Astrodome.

Giants had a good bullpen when he was there in the late 70s. Gary Lavelle, Greg Minton. Lavelle would be more appreciated in today’s game.

I love the story Reggie tells of the night he first scored 30(?) in a varsity game and everyone in The car was silent and he’s wondering WTF?? That was the night Cheryl scored 100!!

Moffitt had a rubber arm and was solid. That was a great bullpen; Minton, Lavelle and Moffitt. Lavelle was the epitome of the “stylish” lefty.

You can thank Chris Berman for a lot of those types of nicknames. A funny bit at the time that didn’t age well.

Falcone had a swim through the Cardinals about the time I discovered baseball on AM radio. Alarm clock radios were too incriminating — had to be a transistor under the pillow.

The coldest I have ever been at a baseball game was a June Mets-Giants game at Candlestick. My group left in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game and it was Seaver vs. Marichal! Just couldn't take it.

Covering the Dodgers, even in June, you had to pack a damn parka to survive a three-game series at Candlestick. Then, you had to carry it the rest of a nine- or 12-game trip and never wear it again.
The Dodgers' travel gear had parkas that said DODGERS MEDIA on the back. WTF. Only the broadcasters and technicians wore them. No writers did.
