Not sure Couples has the personality. Love either. I wouldn't have a problem with Azinger again.

Re: 2010 Ryder Cup captain

I'm guessing we'll never see Fuzzy Zoeller captain the team, so I'd have no qualms with Azinger getting an encore. Pavin wouldn't be bad, either.

Re: 2010 Ryder Cup captain

Keep 'Zinger until he loses.

There are other good options as well.

One thing to consider is that the next Cup will be across the pond, so the crowds will be different and so will the emotions of the players.

Hell, why not Zinger for President!

Has O'Meara ever done it? Maybe Rocco.

I think Arnold Palmer is the only captain to repeat. My guess is Love. As for the Euros, who else but Monty?

Damnit, cue up the bi-annual story we'll do about Larry Nelson complaining he never gets a chance to be captain.

We are so damn predictable...

Re: 2010 Ryder Cup captain

There was speculation O'Meara might get it instead of Lehman since he's got Irish ties and it might keep Tiger happy. I thought about Funk but he hasn't won nearly enough (not to mention a major) to get the job. Same with Rocco.

Johnny Miller said that the tradition is to name a former winner of the PGA Championship, which will probably point to DLIII. I can't wait until John Daly gets to be captain. That will be a hoot.
Here's my question Azinger said he's put his heart and soul into the RC for two years (I know he doesn't have much else going on golf-wise), but what exactly does an RC captain do for the two years leading up. I mean besides pick out the shirts, hats and slacks, arrange for lodging and food, set up practice sessions and such what do you do?
That said, Azinger's picks were brilliant. Hell of job.

Nicklaus repeated in the mid-80s. He lost at Muirfield Village in 87 and I thought he was the captain in 83.

Dispassionate Davis Love as captain of the Ryder Cup team? I just don't see it.

No way... he's pissed off too many people on the tour... the only excitement he generates is a desire to leave the room...

That comment by Miller was bizarre. Ben Crenshaw, Tom Lehman and Tom Kite didn't win the PGA. I don't know what difference that would make in picking a captain.

You can't pick a guy as the captain when he's never played in the Ryder Cup. And do you want that loose cannon anywhere near responsibility?

It's a fair bet there won't be a repeat of Zinger. Payne Stewart's death kind of threw the rotation out of whack. O'Meara might have to soothe a lot of feelings within the PGA of America for being the instigator in the 1999 "We want to get paid" fiasco (people who think Tiger and Duval led that charge are wrong ... it was O'Meara, getting in Tiger's ear). Pavin's got a chance. Love still thinks he can make another team as a player.

I'd give Pavin the slight nod over O'Meara. They'll pick one before Halloween.

But don't they tend to gravitate toward guys who are still active on the PGA Tour, which O'Meara isn't?
