U.S. captain possibilities for 2027:
Obvious: Tiger.
Most recent winners: Davis Love III or Steve Stricker.
Tried and dismal PGA of America formula (nice guy, major champion, won't tick anyone off until he falls on his face Ryder Cup week): Stewart Cink, Justin Leonard, David Toms, Gary Woodland. Webb Simpson.
Non-major winners (Stricker broke the mold): Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker (who is the Prez Cup captain).
Off the wall picks (might work because neither of them will make pairings based on the buddy system, and won't give a *** what anyone thinks of them): Brian Harman, Lucas Glover, David Duval.
Why the hell not: Fred Couples (won three Presidents Cups, will make pairings in the following manner, "whatever you guys want.")

Before the month is over the PGA of America ought to tell Bethpage that no one with a New York (state) address will be permitted to buy a ticket in ‘33.

The org won't do a damn thing, and just wait and see how much those tickets are.

Tiger is obvious, but I still don't know whether he gives two poops about the Ryder Cup. Or enough to put up with all the ceremonial BS and press conferences and other hoo-hah.

As for the rest of those names ... ugh. If Justin Leonard hasn't gotten it by now, he's not getting it. Ditto Cink. Toms seems far out of the loop. Can't see the PGA going with an active player again so that takes out Woodland. Webb would be very on brand as you said. Snedeker, yeah, he'll look all shiny after the U.S. wins the PCup as usual.

Kuchar would ask for a raise.

I don’t have the first clue who should be the U.S. captain. But once they find one who has success, keep some continuity.

I do know Mickelson’s idea of someone like Lou Holtz is dumb. Phil was always a phony, but it’s still shocking how much he trashed his image and reputation.

The 2027 Ryder Cup is in Ireland. Wonder if Rory and Lowry will be fired up.

His reputation to me was always one of being a phony bootlicker. And eventually he got tired of hiding his real self.

I heard some guys on Sirius Golf Radio who said Tiger turned down this year because he is buddies with JP McManus, the owner of Adare Manor so that’s why he’s a shoe-in for 2027.

I think the "captain" is so over-rated in the Ryder Cup. Make sure the players like the outfits and the WAGS are taken care of. The players either play well or they don't. It's weird, you could say Europe is just deeper, while the US has more top players, but even then how many times have the top players on the US squad crapped out?

The weird thing to me is that now that the PGA Tour is open to the top Euros, so many of the Euro Ryder team basically live and work in the US anyway. It's been a long time since Sepp Straka was anywhere near Vienna for example. Rahm's from Arizona. I think Rose lives, or used to live, in the Bahamas. Even those with a footprint in both tours have some kind of US base. And yet, they still maintain the team spirit that came from real factors in the last decades of the 20th century but are much less real now.

I ask this with all sincerity. Do you think anyone with the PGA has ever asked Euros what they do differently? Why they think they kick our asses so regularly?

With all the great things accomplished by Phil, Tiger and Scottie over the last 30+ years, how is it all three have losing RC records? Makes absolutely no sense to me. What’s the common bond?

Still can't believe Couples has never been a captain. Possible he's just fine being a forever vice-captain. Ever the bridesmaid, never the bride...

Have you been watching for the last 25 years? The U.S. has done a masterful job of picking the wrong leaders over and over while Europe has a system that is humming along.

He's been the Presidents Cup captain twice, which is more his vibe. The PGA Tour has that whole thing on autopilot. He'd never want all the jive -- and frequently for the U.S., backlash -- that comes with a Ryder Cup captaincy.

Scottie is still going through it, he might get better. But that run of celebrity teams the U.S. had from 1997-2006...they were far more interested in beating each other than teaming up. Hell most of Tiger's friends on the tour with on the European side. He would've played with them in a heartbeat if he could have.

That's probably why captaincy was important in those days, there were friends on the tour and enemies. The idea that Hal Sutton made Tiger and Phil team up was bound to be disastrous. They barely wanted to look at each other, much less talk. Phil dumping on Tiger's equipment. Tiger's crew thinking Phil is big lazy fat ass. It was uncomfortable to watch.

Usually the tournament is won on Thursdays and Fridays, if the U.S keeps it remotely close, within 2-3 points either way, there is a good chance they are going to win.
