And our vocabulary word for the day!

degradé (adj.): in fashion, where colours are gradually shaded instead of clearly demarcated.

They weren't jeans!

The Times arrives on the scene to back up the Daily News' report that the Mayor's wife did not in fact wear jeans to a cop's funeral:

For those outside the city who may have missed it, Ms. McCray wore a degradé blue trouser suit under a navy coat by the New York designer Anni Kuan to Officer Liu’s service. In photographs of her leaving the funeral home with her husband, the trousers — the only part of the outfit that was visible — resembled faded bluejeans, thanks to that degradé effect.
...

Though the mayor’s office tried to set the record straight the same day, the facts were not published until two days later, by The Daily News. Ms. Kuan said in a phone interview that she believed it was important to speak out and make it clear that Ms. McCray was not being disrespectful.

On the contrary, Ms. Kuan said. The first lady must have thought she was dressing appropriately by choosing a suit and coat in somber colors — one made by a small, New York-based designer who works in the garment district and whose clothes are priced at a relatively accessible level (the jacket of Ms. McCray’s suit is currently on sale for $316 on Ms. Kuan’s website; the trousers, $164).

Though Ms. Kuan is guessing at the motivation, it is an educated guess: The designer is possibly the closest thing to a local couturier Ms. McCray has; the first lady wore her clothes for the de Blasios’ election night party, as well as her meeting with the Duchess of Cambridge, among other events.

Ms. Kuan did allow that when she saw the pictures, she understood where the misinterpretation was coming from. Ultimately, though, she also thought “people were being very unfair about it.”

People whine about something. The media doesn't check into it. YF complains.

People whine about something. The media doesn't check into it within an hour of the incident. YF assumes the media will never do so and complains.

People whine about something. The media checks into the story and reports its findings. YF complains.

I do believe I see a pattern here.

Post modified to correct inappropriate language directed towards another poster--Error Code 12

This is exactly the type of post that we're trying to leave behind at the old SJ. The idea of taking on individual
posters is just not cool anymore. outofplace you've been a victim of being singled out countless times so I would
think that you would want to embrace the new paradigm.

You sure that's an Error Code 12? Because I think Error Code 12 had me on the toilet about 4:30 this morning if you catch my drift.

Isn't it nice to see Boom looking up to the moderators this way?
