Old vacuum, a wedding gift from 2001, bit the dust (ha!) the other day. Tried to replace a part, but soon realized buying a new one could be just a few bucks more.

Any ideas from our SportsJournalists.com audience?

We're looking to spend no more than a couple hundred, if that. Yet if you have a more expensive recommendation, lemme have it.

If you wait a couple days, a Roomba will probably come up on Woot!

We've got an Oreck, which works pretty well. You must buy the bags from Oreck though, they don't sell them at Target. Our other one is a 30-year-old Hoover. Still works fine.

Gee, a suck reference ... at least we're not losing our touch. :P

An Oreck was bought here a few years ago. A worthwhile investment ... it wasn't cheap, but it's lightweight and highly effective.

Refurbished Dysons come up pretty frequently, at least frequently enough to tempt me.

Or do what my friend did: Wait for one of those Kohl's coupons for like 15% off, then go with your favorite elderly person on Senior Citizen Discount Day for an additional 20% off, and buy yourself a new Dyson at a pretty good discount.

You're a hero, Cadet.

Brilliant!

Went to Sears last year and bought a Hoover windtunnel (not the bagless), and have been quite happy with it. Cost about a hundred and fifty bucks, but was totally worth it.

We own the exact model that was on Woot twice in the past few months. We paid $450 for it. It's always on Woot for $250ish.

Amazing vacuum.

My sister has the purple Dyson and loves it. I can't imagine spending $500 on a vacuum cleaner, but at the time they had a dog.
Another suggestion is to use the 20% off coupons that Bed Bath & Beyond seem to send out every other week.

I don't have alot of carpeting in the house, so I've been using a Hoover cheapy model for nearly 15 years.

We have the "purple Dyson." The DC17 - Animal. And, it's an animal.
But, we got it because she had a hair up her ass to get one.
This guys daily blog finds great deal on vacuums and kitchen crap. Worth looking. He finds ways to get around shipping and tax for you.

No way would I spend triple figures on a vacuum. Then again, I have hardwood, so it's a moot point.

My Dyson ANimal is going on 4 years old and it's the best $500 I've ever spent.

It's amazing what it picks up.
