A National Dance?

A cousin of mine posted on FB a wish for a national dance. She's very inspired by the Haka, which is more based on New Zealand Maori culture and has been spread to represent islanders throughout the Pacific.

I suggested The Floss, though I doubt it would project the same strength, pride and unity as the Haka. It would well represent our stupid culture though.

Given those in power to make an official declaration, it’s pretty much going to be the the square dance. Because there probably isn’t anything out there that’s more white and hokey (the polka is still a bit too foreign).

Plus, almost everyone harbors a secret, often repressed, fantasy about swinging their partner.

The square dance people have had a hell of a run in state legislatures. I count 24 states at this link, although some have multiple dances they recognize.

Do they still make middle school kids learn square dancing? Makes cursive seem like a useful life skill in comparison.
