New gun-control campaign airs on the league's games Christmas Day.

The words “gun control” are never mentioned.

But the organization that paid for them, Everytown for Gun Safety, has a robust and controversial agenda: It was founded by former New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg specifically as a counterweight to the National Rifle Association, and the group also battles at the local, state and federal level to expand background checks for gun buyers, strengthen penalties for gun trafficking and ban gun sales to people convicted of domestic abuse.

Say what you want about it, it kind of makes the NFL's "bold" stance against breast cancer, support for the military and Hispanic Heritage month look small-time.And when you think about it, being a strong 2nd amendment person and being against gun-violence shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

They're not mutually exclusive at all. But you're not going to curb much gun violence with appeals into the camera for self control.

And vice versa, though it often seems to be for those focused on the latter.
