The speech was getting close to cheesy but never quite got there. The 0.4% stuff at the beginning was a little Pacino from Any Given Sunday, but still great.

I love the line, when talking about the .4 percent, when Mamdani said, "New Yorkers ask, 'Why did you give us a head start?'"

Just a great line to really bring that point home. The kid was having a tough day yesterday so I sent her the clip. She is decidedly not a sports person, but I sent it with the message, "Watch your mayor, and stay with it to the end."

She replied, "Thanks. I needed that."

That made the speech very special to me.
