This after Kroenke Sports let executive of the year Masai Ujiri walk to Toronto.

It seems the Nuggets are under new ownership -- that of the Rockies.

It's funny, I figured Karl was just being his usual acidic self when he said COYs usually end up getting canned a few weeks back - I think both he and the GM were probably thinking new contracts were coming their way. That said, Karl should get a healthy bump from either the Nets, Clippers or Grizzlies who obviously now feel justified in spending more on a coach.

Karl's been through all this before. He'll land on his feet.... if his health is at the point where he still wants to coach.

So what was Kroenke expecting from this team?

Their win total this year exceeded preseason expectations probably more than any team in the league, yet immediately afterward he fires his coach and is quite happy to kiss his GM goodbye as well. How does this make sense? Guess he doesn't like overachievement.

Betcha anything they're worse next season.

I would imagine the Denver job would be an attractive one... I'm stunned they got rid of Karl. I wonder if he asked for an extension and didn't get it and this was the result...

This means the NBA and NFL coaches of the year will be with different teams next season. Strange.

I'm sure there's some NHL coach who was fired pretty shortly after winning coach of the year... That league seems to have horrific job security. It's not much better in the NBA though...

Perhaps Kroenke thinks the Nuggets will need a lottery pick player in order to get to the top and they will never land in the lottery with Karl as coach.

The Lakers like to make their coaching changes a week into the season.

Karl had one year left on his contract and almost everywhere he's been, he has sought extensions going into the last year to avoid the lame-duck status. The Kroenkes don't want to pay (on the hockey and basketball sides) and are blowing it up. Kiszla already is out with a scathing don't-let-the-door-hit-your-ass-on-the-way-out column ripping on Karl (though Kiszla has been doing that for a long time). I see this as major regression for the Nuggets, back to the 15-win seasons.

What's the word on Karl's health of late? I hadn't been paying real close attention. Obviously he felt it was good enough he WANTED to keep coaching next season.

What do you expect from a guy who, a few years ago, was so unconfident about his team making the playoffs, he booked the WWE into his arena months before, only to have to tell them at the very last minute that his team had a playoff game the same night.
