I guess they too realize that just talking like you have marbles in your mouth isn't "singing."

Hence, no Dave Matthews.

And, though he's come a long way since the 1970s . . . . ever try to SING those old Rush songs? Hurts the throat.

It does look like the list takes into account how annoying they are, aside from the sound of their voice. I guess it was too much to expect Coldplay Dude to be on the list.

I'm with you on Dave Matthews. He's an excellent guitarist and a great musician, and his voice fits with the music. But he's still got an annoying sound.

I can understand the hate for John Mayer because of the sensitive prettyboy image, but he really has grown on me. If "Why Georgia" doesn't sum up everything it means to be 25 years old in this day and age, I don't know what does.

I have to say that, occasionally, Lucinda Williams's voice gets mushy and sloppy and I don't much like it at all.

Honestly, this list is a more ambitious project that it might appear at first. There's lots of terrible singing out there. I'm guessing the list isn't so much for obvious dreck like Yoko Ono, but for singers are who generally respected but have a minority of spirited detractors.

Hate Dave Matthews. In the classic rock division, Steely Dan's crooner is also in my Pantheon of Loathed Vocalists. I almost never listen to commercial radio any more, so there's probably lots of hideousness of which I'm blissfully unaware. Kenny Chesney is to country music what Plan 9 from Outer Space is to film.

The fact that this list excludes Jonathan Davis of Korn makes it worthless. Fred Durst could be in there too...along with any death metal "cookie monster" vocalist.
