I may have posted something before about Tim Reynolds of Dave Matthews Band on “Proudest Monkey” ……I’ll also submit the masterpiece in the middle on “My Sharona”.

After watching Becoming Led Zeppelin, I've dug a little deeper into the history of them and started trying to listen more carefully to Jimmy Page's riffs. Boy I failed to appreciate his work so much. In the Evening, Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, awesome.

The intro riff by Steve Gaines on Skynyrd’s “I Know A Little” is so perfect. I have often said that if the plane crash hadn’t happened, we’d spend all day debating “best Steve Gaines solos.”

Also, the slide work on Isbell’s “Decoration Day” (live versions) and “Children of Children”.

Led Zepplin meet Jed Zepplin. Some sneaky good guitar playing from Wariner and Parnell. Vince Gill is another guy who can bring it.

FWIW. Bonham is a very very very underrated drummer.
Such a heavy stick. You know after it’s the first beat that it’s “ Levee”…..some guys though man. Some guys.

The best part of watching that was seeing fans who had no idea what they were in for clearly regretting their life choices listening to Zeppelin just jamming and riffing. Plant is gyrating and in the zone but the audience is going da faq are we watching.

60 years later it’s hard to imagine having that reaction but they were something else.

Almost every vintage Allman Brothers song has a great guitar solo, either by Duane, Dickey Betts or both. Not a bad one in the bunch.

One Way Out and Statesboro Blues on Fillmore East both have great solos by Duane Allman and Dickey Betts.

Speaking of Skynyrd, the triple guitar attack by Steve Gaines, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins on T For Texas is awesome.

Stevie Ray Vaughan's catalogue is obviously loaded with incredible solos, to me, none better than on Texas Flood live at Montreux.

And in the minimalist category, Johnny Ramone's solo - 36 notes, all the same - on I Wanna Be Sedated.

Great call on My Sharona and also from that era, there's a great solo in the middle of Sausalito Summer Night by Diesel.
