I'd give Tony a good review for this game since it's the preseason, the game obviously sucked and it was his first time on the air for more than 30 minutes. I think he'll only get better. And the less Tirico speaks, the better.

The 'Seinfeld' reference in his opening remarks should become a tradition for T.K. Find a way to get Seinfeld and American Idol into the opening.

And, being a Vikings fan, I like the uniforms. Just as long as they dont go with Purple jerseys and purple pants.

Listen up! Tony Kornheiser had to be better than the short-lived sitcom loosely based on his life.

And he was. Much better. And that’s even putting aside such a low standard as the Washington Post columnist and ESPN personality’s 2004 show “Listen Up.”

Kornheiser joined Mike Tirico and Joe Theismann in the booth for “Monday Night Football,” which moved to ESPN this season after 3 1/2 decades on ABC.

Because of the ill-fated Dennis Miller Experiment a few years ago, many ears were cocked to wiseacre Kornheiser, who once wondered how Jackonville snagged the Super Bowl, asking: “What, Tuscaloosa was booked?” ...

Tony Kornheiser played it safe in his "Monday Night Football" announcing debut last night, making few missteps but offering little for the highlight reel. It wasn't exactly clear at times why he was there at all.

Tirico sucks. Well he doesn't suck, it just doesn't seem to be his thing.

I watched off and on, while beatin' rocks at the office.

TK was nervous. Quiet at times. Like he was waiting for a cue.

He'll do better. He's just got to work on his timing/chemistry with Theismann.

Tirico? Nothing special.

They're trying real hard with the "Ask Tony" segment, maybe too hard. But we shoulda expected some rough going early.

Did like "The Bald Brigade" in the stands, however.

Incidentally, Aaron Brooks really sucks.

Kellerman was an ass on that show, but not as smarmy as Reali. At least Kellerman is considered a foremost expert in something, and he is quite bright. Reali is just a boneless chicken breast.

I got an idea. Instead of Stat Boy, they should put Beano Cook in there. Instead of ATH, you would call the show Cookin' with Beano :D

Unlike many here, my reflex action isn't to go brown bunny on Kornheiser.

So from that perspective, I actually didn't think it was the train wreck I was expecting. Kornheiser was by no means great, but he wasn't a disaster.

And I agree with the Pope, there could be some good by-play between Kornheiser and Thiesmann, especially since both have known each other for a while. And without Paul Maguire there to be to Thiesmann as Bobby Bland is to James Brown (and vice versa), the ESPN broadcast actually came off as a helluva less schticky than it used to be.

And Tirico actually engaged both in some football discussion, unlike Al Michaels, who I like, but who also sets the whole broadcast up to hear the maximum amount of his voice.

And God please, why is Suzie Kolber back? She sucks. She just sounds and looks like the local high school cheerleading coach. One of these days she's going to accidentally blurt out to someone like Jon Gruden, "So you gonna rock the **** at state?" She's actually better doing those hilariously cheesy post-game interviews at the end of the ESPN NFL2k5 video game.

Not a bad first run though.

Boring and obvious is a good way to describe it.

What's Kornheiser's function in the booth? To be clever, or amusing, or different, right? Well, all he does is try to analyze football, which he doesn't know enough about to analyze. So he just sounds like an average joe fan sitting and watching a game -- making inane comments. Just like Dennis Miller, as someone said above.

Also, the broadcast needs more sideline reporters.

When Joey "Rhymes with Heisman" is saying stupid crap fellating Art Shell as being better prepared for NFL re-entrance than Joe Gibbs was, Tony simply says, "Really?" in that tone that only Tony can pull off. I think that as Tony gets his sea legs, he'll get better. I still think he can play Meredith to Theismann's Cosell.
