This one's looking rather silly at the moment.hockeybeat said:Other than Dontrelle, the Marlins don't have a pitcher that the Mets want.

Coming into tonight's games, the Mets lead the Braves by 12 games. Clearly, they've done it with smoke and mirrors. :
No one is arguing that the Mets don't need another starter. They do. But, other than Dontrelle Willis, name one Marlins starter the Mets should trade for.

A. That wasn't the question posited at thread's start.
B. That wasn't what you wrote that Bat was responding to.
Any of the Marlins starting four after Dontrelle is at least... at least... arguably better than the Mets 3-5 guys.... and maybe their No.2 at 41 years old.

Maybe they are better long term. Short term, this season, the Mets need pitchers who have playoff experience.

Like Beckett, Penny and Pavano in 2003?
As you have articulated, the playoffs are a different animal.hockeybeat said:This Is Pubic Tap said:hockeybeat said:This Is Pubic Tap said:hockeybeat said:Football_Bat said:This one's looking rather silly at the moment.hockeybeat said:Other than Dontrelle, the Marlins don't have a pitcher that the Mets want.

Typically, the teams that win have a pitcher that has had some playoff experience. The '03 Marlins were an anomaly. I'm not taking anything away from them, as they were great in playoff year.
Looking at th 2006 Marlins, who is comperable to Josh Beckett? Who is their Brad Penny? Their Carl Pavano?  Â

Typical Greedy Rat ******* Traitor outing. Shelled in the first and he's settled down since. Of course, the dog-ass lineup he's facing (with the exception of Ryan Howard) isn't exactly Murderer's Row.

I thought I was posing this question among a constituency that knows baseball....
So, you're out...
If the Mets were building for three years from now, then, yes, the Mets need to swap rotations. But the Mets are dead-set on winning this year or next. As of today, the Mets have:
A No. 2 in Pedro.
A No. 3 in Glavine.
A boatload of No. 5s in Trachsel, El Duque, Maine, Pelfrey and Bannister.
You said that Dontrelle is the only pitcher the Mets would want.
In slotting where the guys go in the rotation, I think Dintrelle is the only guy beaten out by a Met
Pedro over Dontrelle slightly
Josh Johnson over Glavine
Scott Olsen over Trachsel
Anibel Sanchez over El Duque
Ricky Nolasco over... whoever
If you're building long term, then, yes, you go with the Marlins' rotation.
But, save for Dontrelle, how many post-season games has this rotation won? Pedro's won playoff games. So has Glavine. So has El Duque.
You think Glavine is getting it back?
If he were 34, I'd agree.
El Duque... isn't that like betting on 0/00?
If Glavine comes back... all props to you.
