Somebody who tries to be a hero in situations like these usually ends up becoming a dead hero.

That's it, you've convinced me. It is much better to be afraid of getting hurt than to do something to save someone else's life.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go re-watch United 93 because clearly I missed the point.

You clearly missed the point on this thread.
The guy was killed by a stab in the neck. The beheading was just desecrating a corpse.
You would risk your life to prevent that?
That wouldn't make you a hero. It'd make you stupid or reckless. Take your pick.

EDIT: Geez, Demo, reread your post once in a while, moron.

I really hope you're never in a fight or flight situation.

I really hope you never misjudge ANY situation, because you just might get killed or murder an innocent person.
Seriously, this is not about heroism unless you can look into the future and knew the guy was going to pull a knife and kill someone on the first stab while everyone else was sleeping.
The damage was done in seconds.
After that it was just window dressing.
But hey, maybe you don't think your life is worth much.
I'd gladly give mine to save another. I wouldn't do it just to prevent mutiliation of something no longer living.

That's well said.

I still contend they could have done more than just block the door, but I feel this is one of those "agree to disagree" moments.

Or, here's a question....why didn't the bus driver speed up and slam on the breaks? (Ala do whatever necessary to cause the guy to lose his balance)?

Here's a better question, Huge ****ing Hero: Why not learn your native language? It will come up a lot more often than your interweb bravado.

I still don't think I was wrong. I still think they should have done more.

Nothing short of being in the situation myself and having to make my own choices is going to change that.

When I was in high school, I applied for a job at a convenience store. One of my friends told me I wasn't really cut out for the job.
"What if somebody robbed the store," he said. "You'd probably just give him the money."
Well, yeah, because that was probably store policy. That and my life is worth a lot more than the $50 or so in the register (or at least I like to think it is).
My friend said he'd kick the robber's ass, maybe disarm him and shoot him with his own gun.
Maybe there's no comparison between the situations, but it's easy to talk tough when you've never been in that situation.

Going to be hard to do that with an pantload, there, Chet.

No, I think the comparison is right on, sp.
