Still think the Derby has the strongest souvenir game. In 1992, I saw a woman ordering a full set of Derby china, with images of past historic races on them.

Did you at least get all those mint juleps in an official Kentucky Derby souvenir glass?

There were two glasses, one for mint juleps and one for whatever the other drink was. The one that the other drink went in, a rounded glass, made it home. The mint julep glass did not.

I was working, so my souvenir julep glass made it home intact and without ever having had a julep in it (I hate them, I hate sugared cocktails).

You hate Old Fashioneds?
My folks drank a very particular cocktail, a J&B Old Fashioned with no sugar or cherry, just orange and lemon slice plus the bitters and a splash of soda. I like them, but since we seldom drink cocktails except when eating out, I don't make 'em much anymore and don't order them because bartenders get confused. My father had business cards printed up with the recipe he'd hand bartenders and waiters, but I lack his degree of self-confidence.

I use half an ounce of simple syrup (homemade) in the bottom of a glass, with two or three splashes of bitters. Then I put the ice cubes in and pour 2 1/2 ounces of bourbon over them, 3 ounces if I'm feeling it. Then I stir. Then I drop in an orange peel. That's it.

I will say that the other night I left out the sugar. Just splashed a couple dashes of cherry flavored bitters over a pour of strong bourbon on the rocks. It was outstanding.

I have a couple of Super Bowl champagne flutes from the after party. They were definitely used.

I have a couple of those as well. Used to have four from different Bowls, but two broke. All used. You don't get 'em until work is done.

A buddy of mine came back from Augusta last year and grateful as I am for him thinking of me and bringing me some stuff; I can't use it because the minute someone sees the logo, they're going to ask me "when did you go?" and I got nothing.

The day I played Augusta, the day after Sandy Lyle won, there was a Japanese foursome in front of us. I swear, every last thing in their possession, from their clubs to their socks, had a Masters logo on it. I wouldn't have been surprised to learn their underwear was of Masters logo vintage.
I don’t know about then but it’s possible now. I saw masters boxers.

He was a supreme asshole at the University of Georgia, so bad that they made him leave after his freshman year. He continued to be a supreme asshole at Augusta State while leading them to two national championships. Along the way he and his parents severed contact, he met the wife, and basically he just sounds like a guy who has no friends and doesn’t give a single solitary **** about anything besides winning golf tournaments. At one point as a pro he called himself a “****ing faggot” for missing a shot, loud enough for microphones to pick up.

Also, it was pretty clear there were a couple of cheating incidents on the course in college.
He’s the American Vijay.

First year I went to the Masters, I was like "OMG, I have to have some Masters gear. Here is $250."

Second year, I was like "Well, my parents definitely need something. I'll get some shirts for them."

Third year, I was like "This place is somehow both great and ... creepy. I don't need any more of this stuff. Ok, fine, I'll buy a $10 ball marker hat clip."

FWIW: I thought coverage was fine.
Granted, I did not watch any post-round action, Reed interview or anything.... One of my former sportswriting friends, who is an unabashed Reed fan, was blasting Nantz and the AN crowd for the obvious, biased disappointment that Reed won.

I have a Masters polo my dad’s friend got me for some reason. I’ve never even picked up a club but wear it every so often. It’s the rare non-tall-length polo shirt that actually fits me.

Nantz becomes more insufferable each year with the hushed tones and melodrama in his voice.
