Feds issue security bulletins on stadiums and hotels

Transit systems were also warned. This is in response to the Afghan guy arrested in Colorado related to the New York City terror plot. They found backpacks and cellphones like the ones used in the Madrid train bombings a few years back. I think if Al-Qaida wants to inflict the most damage the place to go is sports venues (a playoff game at Yankee Stadium, and NFL contest). All eyes are on the game to begin with. Scary stuff.

Not that we should even be discussing this, but hotels are a piece of cake compared to sporting venues. The scenarios are unbelievably frightening.

I've said it many times: The corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. is probably an ideal terrorist target...The New York New York on one side, the MGM Grand on the other -- it doesn't get more symbolic than that, IMO...especially since this new warning refers to places of "sin and entertainment."

Nobody who's covered sports since 9/11 hasn't already figured out dozens of easy, horrific, nearly unpreventable means of causing mass destruction at stadiums, arenas, etc. Security precautions are perfunctory at the pro level, haphazard to laughable at college games, and of course, non-existent at the prep level.
Consider the average big-time football game, college or pro. How many fans arrive in cars carrying large, unmarked containers? Practically all of them.

Nobody who's covered sports since 9/11 hasn't already figured out dozens of easy, horrific, nearly unpreventable means of causing mass destruction at stadiums, arenas, etc. Security precautions are perfunctory at the pro level, haphazard to laughable at college games, and of course, non-existent at the prep level.

OK...say some jackball walks into Old Trafford and blows up the whole of Manchester United along with quite a few supporters. Let's say AQ takes responsibility for such an act. I don't believe for a minute that there would be celebratory orgies in the streets of the Muslim world.
Rather, those extremists would probably have to go in hiding over the level of anger that such a move would generate.

Now if some random nutter decides to act on his own and blow something in the name of Allah, there's little to be done. But, on an organizational level, I don't think any group leadership would order an attack on a live sporting event because of what problems it may cause for the structure and finances of the group.

It would be a lot less hard just to buy a ticket, and it wouldn't leave a paper trail.

Actually attending the event is unnecessary. Two hints: Underground parking garages and did you ever see security when fans are LEAVING an event?
