Watched the E60/ESPN+ doc on Armando Galarraga and the bungled perfect game. Well done, with a lot of talking heads -- including Jim Joyce himself, to his credit.

There was a good point by a professor at Monmouth U., who used the case as part of his curriculum. He compared it to George Brett's pine tar game and how that was eventually overturned by MLB a day or so later.

With the Brett overturn as precedent, should the same have happened with Galarraga?

Nope. The spirit of the rules at the time and then are still the spirit of the rules. Safe-out calls remain an ump's discretion. Replay fortunately as a large result of this kick has changed this.

One of craziest things to me was the absolute VIOLENCE of the early Muppets, when they were doing the D.C. show. Cartoon violence of course, but really struck me funny.

Jim Henson would have had his first Muppets do a murder-suicide on air if it moved another case of coffee.

The Tigers still won that game. Unless they'd played the rest of it under protest and the blown call led to the Indians coming back to win, I can't see a reason why MLB would overturn it. History or not.

I'm excited about that one, too. If it's the same documentary, our paper made a quick $1,000 by licensing them a 30-year-old file photo that'll probably be on screen for about five seconds.

McNair was good. Fairly tight hour (which I'm appreciating more now; not every doc has to be two hours or a multi-parter) and just sad. Which you knew it would be.

My 12-year-old was riveted by this one. He couldn’t understand how they could let something so unfair happen. It was a good chance to reinforce that bad calls will happen during his games and reacting with a sly smile will go further than an exasperated helmet toss.

We also recently watched Free Solo (which I saw when it came out and wrote about after interviewing Jimmy Chin prior to the premier) and it also grabbed him. It’s one of my favorite docs ever.

May have been commented on before. "Loopers" is a doc on caddies. Kind of light and hints at details. There are some details about The Masters.

The thing that gets me is the doc highlights a caddie scholarship fund in the Midwest ,but never mentions Francis Ouimet. How can you do a story about caddies and not include the local kid who won the US Open?

"Going Clear,' the terrific doc that came out of Lawrence Wright's New Yorker story and eventual book on Scientology, is on Netflix now. Highly recommend (the book is truly excellent), but you'll never watch Tom Cruise in a movie the same way again.

Watched "Unfit," a program about Donald Trump and his should-be candidate-canceling issues, followed by "Capitol Riot: Minute By Minute," on Amazon Prime Video last night.

Wow. Every would-be voter should see them, and both should be required viewing in schools. They really bring home the issues with Trump and candidacies and Presidency.

Watched the new Netflix doc “Return of the King” about the Elvis 1968 TV special. Pretty good interviews - Conan, Bruce, Wright Thompson and Baz Luhrmann. It doesn’t touch his drug use or Priscilla’s age of consent but it’s just amazing that he basically didn’t perform live for 10 years.
