Where did I say - or did Safire say - she wasn't a good nurturing mother? It's about perception. I just think she's trying hard to change that perception to help herself out with women, whom she has insulted from time to time over the last 15 years.

My biggest problem with Hillary is that I don't think she stands for anything but herself. She lacks either empathy or the ability to express it. What is her purpose? Who does she want to help? What does she really hope to accomplish other than being the first female president? Please tell me if you know. I haven't been able to figure out her message. As simple as Obama's is - unity - at least I understand that. Hillary panders. I don't trust that. I didn't trust it when Kerry did it, Romney did it, etc. ...

I still stand by my comparison of her to Bob Dole and his campaign against Bill. Both have been around a long time, both feel a sense of entitlement to the thrown and both get real crotchety when you question them. No thanks.

Sorry for any confusion. I sort of meant "we" as SportsJournalists.commers, but mostly I meant "we" as Americans, Hillary included.

Chelsea Clinton has made a number of Hollywood friend like Maddona and Gywneth Paltrow over the years. There is nothing unseemly at all about her calling her friends asking for their support. Nothing at all. Shuster was wrong in his comment and should be called out for saying Chelsea was being "pimped out". If this was a comment from Page 6 then the tempest would pass but "page 1" political commentary should not sink to page 6 sensibilities (or lack thereof).

However, what is off-putting for many is that the reality of Chelsea Clinton as a successful, single, jet-setting young woman is in a big way being distorted by the Clinton campaign. When Chelsea appears in commercials for her mom - she is made to look like a young school librarian who is taking a break from doing bake sale fund raisers and she certainly isn't wearing Versace clothes. It is this "image not reality" spin which makes Hillary come off as phony. Who's to tell anymore when she is truly outraged?

It also seems strange to hear this outrage coming from the Clintons. The Clinton White House tried to convince a nation that oral sex isn't really sex but they get Puritanical about the word pimped?

Meanwhile John McCain's kids cannot be reached for comment due to the fact that they are serving in the military.

The first part is dead on.
The second part, well, I suspect almost everyone dresses diiferently in real life than they do in campaign commercials. The Bush girls weren't wearing jeans and spaghetti straps when they gave their speech at the 2004 RNC. "Successful, single and jet-setting" is mutually exclusive with talking about your "mom" in ads? When did that rule pass?
The Clintons are entitled to be outraged about their daughter being referred to as "pimped out" on a network news show. Anyone would be.
Meghan McCain is campaigning for her father. This last point you should probably take up with the Romneys.

She's OK with anything Fox News says, and wants to debate on that channel. She continues to work with McCain in the Senate after his comments. But she wants her pound of flesh from Shuster.

Even if there's a sliver of truth--and I don't think there is--to Shuster's comments, he still should be suspended for the words he chose. "Pimped out?" I mean come on now, he should know better than that.

That being said, if MSNBC had any stones and actually looked at the substance of their employees' comments, they'd have suspended Chris Matthews long ago for his blatantly misogynistic comments about Hillary.

I'm an Obama supporter, but anyone who thinks Hillary doesn't catch flak because she's a woman is deluding themselves.

It was graceless and stupid and would never have been said about Meghan McCain, or Cate Edwards, or anyone else. Never. Shuster is supposed to know better and this is what happens when you allow radio talk-shows and TV argument clinics run the national dialogue.
