The plane carrying U.S. Vice President **** Cheney from Australia to the United States was diverted to Singapore on Sunday because of unspecified problems, Australian Prime Minister John Howard said.

"I am not aware of the full circumstances and I have not been told except that it has been diverted," Howard told reporters in Sydney.

"As to the precise circumstances I'm not as yet advised," he said.

Australian media including Sky Television and Australian Associated Press reported that the plane had experienced unspecified mechanical problems.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. consulate in Sydney said she was not aware of the circumstances or of Cheney's proposed route and referred further questions to the White House.

The United States embassy in Singapore said it was not aware of any problems with Cheney's plane or of his planned route.

Cheney's plane left Sydney's international airport at about 9 a.m. to return to the United States.

Cheney was in Sydney as part of a trip to thank Washington's Iraq war allies Japan and Australia and to reassure them that President Bush's plans to inject 21,500 more troops would help quell violence.

Maybe he got horny.

I don't know how you were diverted,
you were perverted too;
I don't know how you were inverted,
no one alerted you.

Sounds to me like a group of pissed off quails are seeking revenge.

Why? Cheney never shot them.

HAHAHAHAHHA!!!!

Why do you hate America, Ellis?

Because I'm a gay-loving, God-hating, flag-burning, draft-dodging Communist.

Well, there's an invitation for Yawn, the thread-killer, if I've ever seen one ... any minute now ..

What happened to "I don't agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death you're right to say it"?

After all, isn't that the oath you took? Isn't your job to protect my freedom? Or are you simply a puppet? You're free to think for yourself as you will, but a lot of people happen to believe that Cheney perpetrated a terrific lie on the American people that has resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 U.S. soldiers and complete volatility in one of the most sensitive and wholly unstable parts of the world.

I'm pretty sure it's not in the Constitution or anything.

He didn't say you have no right to say it, he just called you a jerk for doing so - his right which I assume you are prepared to fight to the death to protect.

Not to threadjack, especially with a moral and political battle about to burst, but Air Force One (or the Veep's ride) crashing has always been a fear of mine. Imagine the absolute turmoil and suspicion that would emerge if something as horrific as this ever happened.

And if you want an interesting look at journalism and wire services in the 1960s, check out The President's Plane is Missing, by Robert Serling. Interesting read. The followup novel, years later, Air Force One is Haunted, was a pale and poor imitation.
