Might not be a crime, but I wouldn't want him coaching my kid. I would have felt guilty even if it wasn't my fault and stayed with that kid all night long. Selfish prick.

Curious if it qualifies as hit and run or not, since he technically left the scene involving an injury before the police arrived. Doesn't sound like 'Coach Hennessy' has to worry about that, though.

It actually is a crime in this state to leave the scene of the accident if there is property damage or injury. The coach claims his car was damaged, and clearly the boy was injured.
I'm predicting the coach is left go after this season, if not before.

He said the boy, identified as Chase Thornton, ran into the front of his car while trying to dart across the street. Hennesy said he was looking the other direction and didn't realize his car had been hit until a football player who was riding with him told him.

He said he never heard from the child's father again.

I take it Hennesy must not teach driver's ed.

a) when a car in motion hits a pedestrian, the driver of the car is at fault;

b) the driver of a car is usually required to be paying enough attention to know when he runs over pedestrians;

c) maybe you haven't heard from the kid's father yet, but don't worry -- you will.

i was kind of annoyed the school's web site didn't have an e-mail or phone number for good ol' coach douchebag. they do, however, have a contact form for comments to the district administration, which i happily made use of.
