BBQ vs. Cheesesteaks: Super Bowl LIX thread

Every once in a while, my ex liked to reassure herself that seducing me could pull my interest away from football. For the 1999 NFC Championship she was right.

I had Super Bowl XXXIII on the TV, but only remember about two plays from it for similar reasons.

The '93 Penguins were 10 points better than the next-best team (119 to Boston's 109). The Final was between L.A. and Montreal. Both finished third in their divisions. The Kings had only 88 points (31 behind Pittsburgh, but they were in different conferences). The Kings "benefited" from Wayne Gretzky's back injury and surgery that was revealed just before opening night. He missed half the season -- and a half season of wear and tear. He came back at midseason was in good shape all the way to the end and through the playoffs.

That Penguins team had won the previous two Stanley Cups, but the Islanders beat them in overtime in Game 7 of the division finals. If I remember correctly, Kevin Stevens was injured on an ugly (dirty?) check into the boards early in that game and the team didn't seem to recover. That had seemed like a better team than the ones that won the previous two cups, but it wasn't enough.

The ‘91 Blues still ache in my heart.

The ‘97 Packers and ‘01 Rams are still the ones that got away. In the alternate universe, Holmgren is in the HOF, Favre is in the upper pantheon and the Rams are probably still in STL — Missouri would have ponied up (again) far sooner.

Man, that Green Bay team could not stop the outside zone/stretch play that allowed Terrell Davis to have a monster game. That one hurt.

The hit on Kevin Stevens in 93, by Rich Pilon, ended up awful, but it wasn't really dirty. The hit as I recall wasn't much out of the ordinary but it so happened Pilon had a half-shield on and Stevens didn't; the shield caught Stevens in the face and knocked him cold, causing him to fall directly on to his face.

That’s the true test of your attraction (well the sex) right? In 1988 I didn’t see Gibson’s HR live because I was seduced by my GF at that time; in 1993 I missed parts of NFC Championship another one did the same.

I did not see the Indians clinch the 2016 American League pennant.

Then her Cubs happened to that team and we had the best hate sex possible after I was afforded 24 hours of pouting.

My intro on Super Bowl Sunday in small market TV.

“Free safety Eugene Robinson is facing charges for a crime that’s not free… and not safe.”
During the only (partial) season of the little lamented Alliance of American Football, a Birmingham Iron player was one of several johns arrested in a prostitution sting. The following game he was listed as unavailable with a groin injury.

And it's the year after he made the these are the Indianapolis Colts, who went 3-13 but beat the Packers, comments as the Broncos were dominating the lines on their way to their first Super Bowl win. Eugene Robinson probably should have stayed away from the Broncos and extracurriculars.

That could be. I haven't watched it in a while and I was watching it from the biased perspective of a pissed off Penguins fan.
