This one has it ALL. A synth-heavy '80s soundtrack, parental estrangement, Mitch Gaylord smoking (not smoking hot, just he smokes so we realize he's a "bad boy" and has lost his way), Janet Jones and some weird subplot about a crippled kid/musical genius whose music propels one of the characters to greatness (kinda Phantom of the Opera-ish).
But to me, the best performance goes to whomever provided the VO/PA at the inevitable "big meet" that ends the thing. At one point he sounds as if he's in tears.. It's one of those movies where they have the "big ending in front of a crowd" where EVERYONE in the building seems to be aware of all the back story drama that led to that moment. (See also various court scenes, a big speech, looking at you Patch Adams).
And pretty much anything and everything from Golan-Globus
