I just posted about Ant-Man & Wasp on the movie thread. I'm including some mild spoilers here.


Most of the movie takes place between Civil War and Infinity War. It deals with the fall-out from Scott Lang helping Captain America, then cutting a deal so he can come home. The connection of what happened in Civil War to Hank and Hope Pym is kind of flimsy, but the rest of the story works. I thought it was a lot of fun, every bit as good as Ant-Man. There is a connection to Infinity War. As always with the MCU movies, stay for the credits. All I will say about those is the mid-credits scene is far better than the one at the end.

I think Hank and Hope are supposed to have a flimsy connection to Civil War. They are collateral damage from Scott's decision which is why they're so pissed off at him in the beginning.

I understand that. I just thought the legal reasoning in the story was dumb. I just didn't want to go too deeply into it because I am trying to keep the spoilers mild at this point.

You're thinking of the bit with the FBI agent talking to Cassie? I know they tried to cover it up as a gag about the character's lack of social skills, but it was one hell of an exposition dump and probably the worst part of the movie.

I thought that's where you learn the connection between the Pyms and Civil War and yes it (along with Ghost's forced backstory) took me out our the film.

I think there was another reference to the connection, but that is where they go into detail.

I didn't mind Ghost's backstory, but I can certainly see how it would slow the momentum of the story.

I thought it was good, but not great. They should be done with Ant-Man movies for now, in my opinion. I just don't think there's enough story to tell to hold another film. Let him be a supporting character in other movies and move on to other characters, esp. once the Fox deal goes through.

With Infinity War coming out on DVD, we are now seeing deleted scenes and hearing more answers from the creators. According to this story, fear of Thanos wasn't the reason the Hulk refused to come out. The cause was the Hulk not wanting to do Banner's fighting any more.

With Infinity War coming out on DVD, we are now seeing deleted scenes and hearing more answers from the creators. According to this story, fear of Thanos wasn't the reason the Hulk refused to come out. The cause was the Hulk not wanting to do Banner's fighting any more.

That's some contrived bull**** and if they were wanting to go that direction, they did a ****-poor job communicating it. It came across as fear.

I agree that the very small glimpses of the Hulk responding to Banner weren't clear at all. I don't have a problem with the idea that he was pissed off at how Banner used him. I will reserve judgement until I see how they handle it in Avengers 4. Remember, this is a three-part Hulk subplot embedded in larger movies. Ruffalo has talked about it. It started in Thor: Ragnarok and is supposed to end in Avengers 4. I'll cut them a little slack until I see the final part.

It's not like the explanation of why Spider-Man had more time to react to his disintegration than other characters. I really do think the directors just latched on to the fan theory that it was his spider sense and ran with it. I don't think it was planned that way. I think the real reason was dramatic effect. I know nobody expects all of the snap deaths to stick. One reason is the characters were too big. Nobody believes that Star-Lord, Black Panther and Spider-Man will stay dead, but it was easy to see that the one with the most impact on fans would be Peter Parker.

Rewatching it right now and I think the best exchange in the film may be when Thor meets the Guardians and they're discussing their next move.

Cracks me up every time.
