I do wonder if there will be an attention deficit since it’ll be a very long time between the series and the movie.

It will be, but people can go back to Disney+ and watch it again.

Or watch it for the first time, if they didn’t.

Mando premiered in 2019, somehow, so I kind of viewed this more potentially as a one-off or capper for now. I think Starfighter is more of their attempt at starting off the next gen, since it is directed by Levy, has big names attached and is set 5 years after The Rise of Skywalker.

I very well could be wrong, but I sort of thought the idea was to have the streaming and newer properties cross over in the movies, including Starfighter. I think that one’s set soon after Rise of Skywalker.

I don’t know if Mando would still be around then, but Grogu certainly would be.

Either way, they need this one to be a hit to kick things off, I think.

I sat through 7 meh episodes of Maul Shadow Lord to be treated to a very good episodes 8 and 9 and the fight I didn’t know I needed in Episode 10.

Saw Mando and Grogu today. A fun summer popcorn movie. Lots of worlds and creatures. Tons of action.

I think kids will love it. Which is pretty smart since the core fanbase is pretty old and gray at this point.

This could certainly be a one-off movie. A self-contained story. But with his life-span and abilities, Grogu is pretty certain to be a part of the future of the franchise. He’ll have to grow up at some point. It’ll be interesting to see how that’s handled.

A criticism I read is that the movie is just like an expanded episode of the series.

I guess I don’t see that as a problem. The series was great. And the movie is certainly much bigger.

You don’t need to have seen the show, either. Which is smart, not going down the Marvel path in that respect.

I was reminded that Burt Reynolds was considered/sought for the role of Han Solo and the thought came to me - is not the Kessel Run similar to going to Texarkana, Tex. for a trailer full of Coors beer for Big Enos Burdette?

My son and I have seen every Star Wars movie in theaters going back to The Force Awakens when he was 2. We’ve watched the entire catalog on Disney Plus.

Neither he nor I have any interest in seeing this movie. Can’t really explain it, either. It’s just, meh.

One of the criticisms I read is that they mostly left out the supporting cast and storylines from the series, but I agree that making it accessible to people who haven't watched the show is a good idea.

Normally, I see stuff like this opening weekend, but I may end up waiting to watch it on Disney+.

Yeah, guessing that’ll be the way a lot of people go. It’s a fun time at the movies, no more, no less. Favreau makes entertaining stuff.

I saw it on a regular screen. No IMAX. But the scale and effects were cool to see on a big screen.

Good soundtrack too. Way different than the great John Williams. But it was good.

Mando the Movie - Perfectly fine, around a C, C+ for me. It essentially is a 2-part episode of the show though, so it's hard to shake the feeling of "this is all we could get Pedro to sign off on" or "Pedro wanted some points on the box office." I put it light on the side of the ledge of good S'Wars stuff, but it's not essentially or anything. Since they missed May 4, they absolutely should have put it in theaters for Father's Day instead.

The biggest issue with the movie is that Pedro Pascal and Jeremy Allan White both have the sleepiest line recordings ever. The latter is especially bad. He's plenty emotive on The Bear and Shameless, so I suspect it is an issue of direction more than anything else.

In contrast, the creature stuff with Grogu, the babu friks and Gatori the fisherman all really sing. That's the **** that everyone likes, along with the cameo voicework in the opening 10 to 15 minute sequence.

My somewhat weird observation - Kind of a decent amount of casual, unremarked on carnage in this one!

When Mando and Jabba Jr. escape the fightin' coliseum, they essentially do so by setting up an Alien movie, and there are now just a big uglies running rampant in a big city portion of an alien planet. And then the end of the movie consists of the good guys doing a bombing run on the Hutt complex. Both kind of struck me as potentially scary / weird in a movie that is primarily going to appeal to 7 to 15 year olds.

Very similar thoughts here. Good fun, inconsequential, felt like two episodes of a streaming series more than a movie. Didn’t feel like the stakes were very high, which is fine, but probably makes this fairly forgettable.

I had braced to be underwhelmed given some comments I read online, but overall I enjoyed it. I don’t tend to nitpick though, and I’m probably not gonna sit down and watch it again anytime soon either.
