You're missing out on some amazing play.
Well, if my boss let me watch basketball on an assembly line, that would be an issue.

And I don't have the bandwidth to watch my team lead by 20 in the first half and watch the Pacers quickly end their season by catching them by halftime and then choking them out.

I've lived through too many more painful and consequential losses. I'm too jaded for hope. And a 20-point lead that is dissolvable is fake hope. I don’t need the Cavs to trade in 64-win seasons with no chance of a title. I’d rather just have a 48- win team that is fun and carefree.

I can watch a Youtube recap.

Or trade Garland and Hunter for LeBron and I'm back in.

If a race is blacked out on TV for an entire state, did it really happen?

I didn't realize that was a thing until I moved to Indiana.
ABC used to run it in tape delay nationwide during prime time with the obligatory pole shot (tee hee) at the end.

The first year I moved here I asked my wife, “You guys built the state’s entire identity around a race you can’t watch until six hours after it started?”

That's cause you're supposed to go to the race and iffin you can't, then you listen on the radio, the way God intended.

The greatest spectacle in dribbling.

I went to a Knicks-Pacers game on race day in the 1999 ECF.

Knicks won, but it was a blast. Most electric crowd I've experienced at an NBA playoff game. City felt like the center of the sporting universe that day.

I knew it had happened once before, but couldn't recall when.

I think the 500 may be the last holdout when it comes to local blackouts.

I remember in high school listening to the race on the radio (I lived in Missouri). It was actually an interesting listen. Howdy Bell with the overall PbP, throwing it to other announcers around the track.

The 1994 Eastern Conference Finals were sandwiched around race day. Games at Market Square Arena (some of the earliest I covered) on Saturday and Memorial Day with the race on Sunday. They played IndyCar engine noise over the PA at MSA, now a cliche, but original at the time and a nice local touch. It was a festival atmosphere that weekend.

In 1995, it was the same. That year I did the opposite, attended the race (an underrated one in the Indy 500 canon), but didn't cover the playoffs. I recall my friend and I listening to Game 5 (Rik Smits shot) on our drive home on Memorial Day and freaking out when Smits made that shot.

I think — not “know” — Luks is breaking down from all of the high-level hoops he’s played for half of his 26 years. Yeah, he needs to be in better shape, but maybe he isn’t able, physically, to work on his conditioning like he should.

Comparisons to LeBron aren’t really fair because James is a freak of nature and nurture and maybe pharmacological help.

The only thing I hate about the Luka trade is Nico needed to command at least 2 future draft picks besides AD and the other pieces of mystery meat. Probably could ID those pieces as chicken or beef too.

Nico could've had Luka AND Cooper because I don't think they win a play-in even with Doncic Kong in the fold.

But I think they finish ahead of the Kings in the regular season if they still have Doncic. It's possible they could get both, but I don't think it was very likely.
