How likely is it that ESPN will bring him back as an analyst?

Guess everybody has different experiences with coaches. Gregg Marshall and Tim Welsh have both been absolute princes to me over years worth of different interactions. I'd go as far as to call Marshall one of the most down-to-earth and accommodating people I've ever dealt with.

But I go back to Syracuse with Welsh, when he was a grad assistant and I was a student reporter, and started talking to Marshall before he ever won a game at Winthrop.

Excellent hire by Rutgers in getting Mike Rice. Only sticky part is he just signed a one-year contract extension on April 9, but he can't be blamed for taking the Rutgers job.

Scarlet Knight fans will be thrilled once he gets some players in and starts building that program again. At the least, they'll see a marked improvement on defense this year.

Great coach, great guy. Excitable and extremely vocal/demonstrative on the court, but a class act off of it.

Prick is probably the wrong word for Marshall now that I think about it, though I can't put a finger on the right word now. I'll come up with one.
I've admitted my dealings with Welsh were limited but he was always pretty consistent in those dealings!

Marshall can be that way ... I've never had a problem in my couple times a year dealings with him, but you also get the sense that whatever accommodation he's conceding isn't done because he's a great guy, it's out of self-interest. Which is fine, most coaches are that way.

But he can also be a prick and he picks favorites and whipping boys, including some in the MVC that don't deserve it.

He has an (sometimes entertaining) instinct towards antagonizing authority and protocol outside of those at his own school. Some of it is annoying ... insisting on using a speaker phone during teleconferences is something he knows rankles both media and league. I also don't think its an accident a feud was developed with respected Creighton coach Dana Altman almost immediately, Marshall saw him as the big dog he was competing with. He's clashed with the league, some of its coaches, its officials. Some of it entertaining, some of it pathetic.

Prick is the right word on the right day. He basks in the glow of his refracted ego and every decision he makes should be viewed in that light.

All of that said, he's good for the MVC if for no other reason than every other coach in the league has a personality that competes with drywall in terms of being interesting.

Gregg Marshall was certainly a prick to a lot of people, primarily those who annoyed him. If he respected you, though, different story.

Just before the whole College of Charleston thing, I was doing a story on him and he calls me back and gives me his cell. "Don't worry about Sports information. They won't help you when you need to get ahold of me." So when he bolted to CofC and then turned around and went back to Winthrop, my job was significantly easier.

Funny story: One year during a golf outing, I'm parking my cart to approach an early tee box when I'm slammed into from behind by another cart. I turn around, and it's Marshall and another coach in the league, just laughing hysterically. I pull out a handful of tees out of my pocket and wing them at him. Overall, maybe the best foursome golf outing I've probably ever had.

According to Goodman at FoxSports.com, Softstra hired some donk named Mo. Hope they hire him a driver.

Mo Cassara is one of the classiest people in college basketball.
Does he have Division I head coaching experience? No.
Is he a "name" hire? No.
But if you ever interact with him, you will quickly find out he is all class --- which is why, even through all of this stuff with Welsh, he impressed the Hofstra people enough in a short time to trust him with the job.

Woj is reporting today that Calipari looks to be leaving the Cats to coach LBJ wherever he ends up.

So who gets the UK job?
