Changes in attitude? Changes in shmatitude

Change.
It’s what keeps college football different and more exciting than the NFL. OK, that and 32 bowls. OK, bands. And there’s more than 32 teams that matter as long as you live outside $EC Country.
Oh. And recruiting. Forgot me some recruiting, where coaches look for that blend of talent, potential and character – unless its Michigan, where it's no business like snow business.
True, the usual suspects highlight this poll and any poll. Yes, Florida is on top, and probably will be after an 0-11 season, because gosh darn it, we just can’t get enough of the greatest player on the greatest team in the greatest conference in college football.
And yeah, Texas and Oklahoma are there – but fret not, they won’t be by Halloween; by then, one will beat the other and the winner will lose another game it shouldn’t.
And there’s USC, hiding out at No. 4 in the poll and waiting for the Reggie Bush/O.J. Mayo lack-of-institutional-control shoe to drop.
But look closer. There’s a lot of unfamiliar faces there.
Mississippi hasn’t mattered since the Reconstruction, yet Houston Nutt – who wasn’t good enough for the Piggies – has the Rabble in 11th.
North Carolina, which recently discovered it was a BCS school, decided it would try hard in a third sport after basketball and lacrosse.
Iowa, feeling a little giddy-up in its step after a 9-4 season, decided to guarantee itself a Homecoming win this season and scheduled Michigan.
Notre Dame, which hasn’t won a neutral site bowl game since Bush, the Elder’s, Administration. It has however beaten Texas A&M in the Cotton Bowl twice during the Clinton Administration and just this last year beat Hawaii in Honolulu during Bush, the Stupid’s, Administration.
And that brings us to the unholy faux four of party-crashers – TCU, Boise State, BYU and Utah. You know them. Those are the schools who want to play BCS teams during the regular season and beat them. Then play BCS schools during the postseason and beat them more – only for more money and prestige.
You’d like to think that this is the year the little guy gets respect. After all, a 13th place start is the highest for any non-BCS team in this poll.
But sadly, even going 13-0 and beating BCS teams won’t matter in the end. It’s not going to be about winning with style; it’s going to be about the big guys hogging all the pie. You want revenue sharing? Try the NFL.
That’s not going to change.
