You're thinking of the right guy ... I thought he might slip a little, but not that much. But when Ced Peerman was still on the board in the sixth round, the writing was on the wall. Peerman was considered borderline 2nd-3rd round.

Am I the only one who thinks Cosmo's assignment was cool?

Of course, I'd probably be pissed if it were my job, but from my standpoint, cool assignment.

Trust me. It might seem cool on the surface, but it can get un-cool real quick.

My "work assignment for the day" was to write a story about the guy. So I got up at 10 and paid attention to the draft until 7 p.m. and waited for the guy to get taken, interviewed him and wrote a story.

Is that good enough for you?

If this was your assignment, then yeah, you were supposed to sit in your chair and do nothing while waiting for the guy to get drafted.

But then again, what do I know?

Since you've never been in the business, probably not much at all.

I saw approximately 50 Coors Light commercials yesterday. And what was with all the goofy photos and poses from players as the bumpers for breaks?

Even Wingo was getting batty by the end of the seventh round. Loved it when the crowd booed the Bears for taking the full three minutes to make the 251st pick in the draft.

Sorry Cosmo, I got you beat.

My draft day story was worse. I was there to get a local DB's happy reaction to getting picked in the first round -- of course he was then picked in the third.

This was back when the whole draft took place until 10 p.m. (I think) so no second day. But still, a 1-2 hour stakeout took four hours! It started as a party at his parents' house, but every pick that was announced took the mood of the room down another notch until it was like a freakin' morgue. Analysts reminding all the viewers why the pick was falling ("Questions about his work ethic", "Bad workout"). Family was pissed. Player was pissed. Very awkward and uncomfortable.

The best part? After four hours he didn't want to talk because he was so upset about his draft pick. Thanks. (Luckily I pre-interviewed him.) I can understand I guess. Those extra rounds probably cost him about $1 million in signing bonus money.

Which reminds me, who was the last guy in the Green Room this year?

IIRC, Michael Oher. If he had fallen any farther, he was planning to fire Sean Tuohy and ask Steve Wojciechowski to adopt him instead.

Yes, it was a scheduled day off. Would have liked to have been doing something with it other than sitting around the house on a nice spring day. Kid was projected as high as second round so my work day Saturday was tied up with it as well. I was just venting, which I guess is not allowed here any more. Because, you know, most people in most businesses actually get two days off a week. That hasn't been the case at my shop much lately. Staff reductions and all.

I didn't fly off the handle until spnited, who doesn't know me or my work, basically called me out on my work ethic and told me to "get the **** out before my sorry ass gets laid off." Completely out of line. That's all you'll hear out of me on the subject. Carry on with the bashing.

Good thing you were not doing a fantasy baseball draft, that tidbit might have sent spitted into seizure.

Actually, I have been in the business, just not as a journalist. Call me crazy, but I kind of like the information I get here on this site. Cosmo was having a bad day and venting. Quite frankly, so was I. It happens.

Cosmo, I can't wait for May to get here either. I'll toast you and May with a beer on the 1st (but not a Coors Light.)

The idea of the late rounds of the draft being destination TV viewing is a little specious anyway. No harm in this if it's on the NFL Network, considering it caters mostly to hardcore NFL fans anyway.
