Guys like Tucker (Tucksie, anyone?) is the reason that the instigator rule has to go.

No it doesn't. Beating him into submission is well worth the two minutes.

My point is that if someone like Tucker is going to run around like an asshole, he should take the beating that's coming. He's not going to fight a heavyweight (Orr, Brashear, Laraque, Boogard); Tucker picks and chooses who and when he fights. The league, if they want to clean up the garbage, needs to get rid of the instigator and let the heavies pound people like Tucker into submission.

It doesn't have to be a fair fight...when Tucksie does something like this, the tough guy ****s him up and sits in the box for the extra two. His teammates reach down for that little extra to be sure the penalty is killed. Hell even if it's five minutes alone, I've been around the game at high levels long enough to know your mates have your back in those situtations, and rarely does it cost the team goals. Might cost a couple game suspension, but it's time/money well spent and I bet the team would kick in to help 'em out if needed.

Instigator or no instigator, grab the cowardly prick and pound him into tomorrow. ****ing weasels...sounds like Steve Ott, too. And Sean Avery. No place in the game for them. Damn shame, cuz they all can play.

Fly, I think we're arguing the same point.

My point is that the cheap shot artist (Avery, Ott, Tucker) should get the same five minute penalty as the tough guy who beats him into submission. Look at what Ott did last Saturday. Not even trying to fight, he allowed Thornton to rag doll him around Boston. The refs should have given Ott a 10 minute misconduct for that stunt.

I think you guys are both right.

The problem with the instigator that you're suspended after getting 3 of them which means money out of your pocket.

And that's crap. Players like Ott, Tucker, Avery, Tootoo, etc...etc... get away with running around like cowboys while the guys who fight them, who get penalized under the instigator rule, get hammered in the wallet.

Flash, did you cover Tucker in the loops?

No, he was gone before I landed. But he did come back for the annual reunion game several times and being in his presence left a very bad taste in my mouth. I'm pretty sure I did a story or two ... just can't recall.
I heard he was a world class asshole when he played for the Blazers

As much as I heard from some of the folks in the community.

Flyers get Matt Carle and a draft pick for Steve Downie, Steve Eminger and a pick.

Not sure where their cap stands, but they were at the 50-player limit. Could Shanny be in Philly by the end of the weekend?

Carle was with the Sharks, yes?

He was part of the Boyle trade, I believe. T-Bay is trying to shed salary.

Six-and-a-half minutes into the third period of the Wild's 3-1 victory, Tucker was called for clipping after he went for a low-bridge hit aimed at Schultz's knees. An angry Schultz drew a roughing penalty in retaliation.

Wait a minute, yes Tucker is a ****, but Clipping? Since when is clipping a penalty in the NHL?

I don't think Tampa knows what it is trying to do.

Was happy to see the Canes bounce back tonight against Ottawa.

Michael Leighton improves to 4-1 and now has just as many wins as Ward. He also won two very key games for Carolina after the Canes spit it up late at the Kings and Washington.

Thank goodness.

The L.A. and Washington games are the sorts that can quickly send a team into the tank. The best thing was to skate again the next night - at home.

Still not ready to hand Michael Leighton the keys to the kingdom, but better than John Grahame? You bet.

Sam,

You watch them more than I do, but I've been impressed with Leighton. He has been solid when I've watched and I've probably seen some of Ward's worse games. Though I was in the building the night he played very well against the Red Wings.

I'm ****ed if I know. It's like they're running a fantasy team with the number of transactions they've had since Koules And The Gang took over.

Who the **** is Lavs? Jesus H. Christ, are we all best friends with the coaches now, too?

Peter Laviolette, the Whalercanes coach. (I think you knew that, Flash, but just in case ... )

Thank goodness the Isles were really that clueless. Good to see the folks in Uniondale have some redeeming value.

Islanders hockey: We fired Peter Laviolette, but you can listen to our games in Mandarin Chinese!
