I'm totally with you. I'm feeling the same way. Only saving grace is we live in the bubble called California, and another bubble within that one, a decent suburb of SF.

I'm trying to feel better about that, but I can't get past his advocacy for preemptive nuclear strike.

Middle class white America is sick of all the pandering to minorities, the freebie handouts to the poor that refuse to work, and they're tired of the same old BS Washington politicians. Sure the emails hurt, but that wasn't it at all. Obama was supposed to be a vote for change, but all he was was more of the same and in fact it got worse with ObamaCare. People want change and they saw it in Obama because it was visual, something they could see and touch. It doesn't matter what color, race or identity their president is. They don't want to be the world's caretaker when we've got our own problems at home. They want someone that will stand up and do something for them.

This election was real simple to figure out. Trump had the pulse of the American people nailed all along while the idiot politicians just went on practicing and preaching the same old crap. Trump's team deciding to make battleground states out of Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio shows who was clearly more intelligent and knew how to win while everyone else blew them off and said he was wasting his time.

Nobody listened to Michael Moore in July but he was exactly right. The angry, rural, middle class white American male decided he'd had enough. Trump listened and went after those voters hard. It was never really that difficult to see coming if you just didn't listen to the liberal-ass media trying to tell you how to think and vote.

EDIT: I change my answer to 2013-14 Kentucky basketball. Cal spent the preseason saying 40-0 was the goal, then gets punched in the mouth three games in by Michigan State. Stumbles through the SEC schedule before going on a wild run as a No. 8 seed to reach the title game but couldn't put the ball in the basket against UConn. Classic underachievers that thought their **** didn't stink.

I don't agree with all of this ... your first sentence could be a statement from 50 years ago, and we've had plenty of liberal/progressive politicians since then.

However, you're dead-on about how "the establishment" — media, the D.C. political class, people living on the coasts — looked down on Trump and his supporters. They underestimated and undercounted them. And they lost to them.

She has assumed from Day 1 that she was entitled to be president, that she should be anointed, because it was her turn and she was a woman, by golly, and she ran her campaign that way from start to finish. She didn't work hard enough for it, presumed too much in too many states, and didn't fire up the marginal liberal-leaning votes in key metro areas. Plus, I suspect that there is more to the health issue than she or anyone else let on during the campaign. I don't think she's particularly well health-wise, and maybe that played into her lack of enthusiasm for the race.

Also, nobody has given Trump credit for the campaign he has run. Early on, he sensed the mood of the country and he played to that mood relentlessly. So what started out as a joke became a movement, and he and his people were right at every step along the way.

I cannot disagree with anything in this post.

The fact that she spent zero time campaigning in Wisconsin is being run into the ground by some of the analysts, but I do think such an error/omission is symbolic of the mediocre campaign she ran.

Yep. "Presumed too much" is the best way to describe it. A momumental campaign error that pushed Florida, North Carolina, Arizona and Georgia to smaller losing margins while pissing away solidly blue states.

I don't know about this. There are other factors at play. She was very aggressive in raising money. She outspent Trump in ad buys and people were saying she was burning off campaign funds in the last week to pay for ads in 'solid' states. What else was she supposed to do?

I don't live in a contested state and I would never go to a campaign rally, so my opinion might be skewed. To me it is mostly buying ads and doing Sunday morning interviews, I don't see what her 'work' or 'enthusiasm' has to do with people voting for her. Create a message and attack Trump and she had a staff of a lot of people to do that. What were more rallies going to do? She probably is incapable of showing the level of enthusiasm or personality that people would react to, anyways. She is a poor campaigner because people don't react to her and got exposed by a socialist in the primaries.

From what I can tell, she outraised Trump, outspent him, and had a bigger, better field operation. People rejected her for a set of reasons, but I don't think a lack of hard work and a lack of enthusiasm are part of it.
