Eugene Robinson?
Barret Robbins?
Pete Johnson?

Who had the worst night beforehand that killed their team?

I've got to say I thought Barret Robbins literally "going of the reservation (is that racist?)" killed the Raiders, given he was the C and closest to Gannon.

Considering how deep into the Raiders' huddle the Buccaneers were, I doubt Robbins would have had as big an effect on the outcome as people think. It certainly didn't help, but in hindsight that was one of those "over before it was even played" games.

Stanley Wilson's cocaine bender before Super Bowl XXIII is probably the gold standard.

Eugene Robinson's john arrest wasn't run of the mill. He received the Athletes in Action/Bart Starr award THAT DAY.

Night before Raiders-Eagles 1981. Took my date to the French Quarter. Like the barricades in Paris, Philly fans on one side of Bourbon Street, Oakland fans on the other.

Yeah, Stanley Wilson laps the pack in this one. Raiders and Falcons were gonna get smoked anyway. Wilson cost one of the most moribund franchises in American history a Super Bowl ring.

Also, I am intrigued about the SBIII conspiracy theories and wish to subscribe to your Substacks. (seriously I've never heard these, so fill me in)

Morrall missed a wide open Jimmy Orr in the endzone at the end of the first half. Instead threw a pick. It was a play earlier in the year against the Falcons that he hit Orr for a touchdown.

Sigh. I was a 15-year-old Bengals fanatic in the stands at SB XXIII, and I still believe the Bengals win that game if Wilson plays (the field was so bad and a fullback would have helped) and Krumrie doesn't break his leg.

Of course at that age I also thought my team would get back to the bowl sooner than later. HAHAHAHAHA

Wilson was a local prep star. For our reporter at the game, it was impossible to get anything more than the basic info they handed out. Prep guy called his high school coach, but he didn't know anything.

So Tom Matte losing a fumble in the first half? The vaunted Colts defense getting dragged by the Jets OL and Matt Snell all game? How much did they receive?

While there are many possible options, I can't look past the NFL Man of the Year getting popped with a hooker.
