This is a manifestation of the common economic misconception that higher production costs must always mean higher consumer costs (usually used in relation to pro sports franchise payrolls and ticket prices).

Of course the business owner would love it if all his cost increases were automatically passed on to customers, but life don't work that way. Joe Sixpack Consumer doesn't give a **** if the price of ground beef goes up 35% -- he's only going to pay more for a Big Mac if he can't get a comparable product cheaper.

Pretty much everyone these days tacks on $2.50 or so as a delivery fee, which goes straight to the driver. So you've already been paying for delivery.

That story pissed me off more than anything. Is she suggesting we were being ripped off even more than we thought we were a year ago when gas prices were ridiculously high?

Because back then all we heard was "Gas rises in proportion to the price of oil."

Now oil is rising fast and gas isn't and the "expert" she quotes says oil will need to be $125 a barrel before gas is $5 a gallon, which is should be now if, as we were told last year, gas prices rise in proportion to oil costs.

I saw an article out of Fort Worth, maybe on AP, but it was on the Fort Worth Star Telegram website, that this was all so that oil folk on Wall Street could get their Christmas bonuses.
