BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 2006--Papajohns.com, the popular online ordering site of Papa John’s Pizza (NASDAQ: PZZA), has entered into a multi-year agreement as the title sponsor of the newly created Papajohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Ala., ESPN Regional Television announced today.
The inaugural Papajohns.com Bowl, an ERT owned and operated event, will be played Dec. 23 at Birmingham’s Legion Field and will be televised by ESPN2 at 12 p.m. CT. The annual game will match a team from Conference USA against a bowl-eligible team from the BIG EAST Conference.

Enter "PHILLY" in the promotional code box. That gets you buy one, get one free pizza. That's worth more than a 50-yard ticket to East Carolina-South Florida.

BTW, I keep hearing what a dump Legion Field is, and the stadium itself isn't so bad. The press box? Eh. The surrounding neighborhood? Phhht. But the stadium is OK.

Hasn't the city spent a lot of money refurbishing the stadium?

They tore down the upper deck opposite the press box because it was condemned.
They put in FieldTurf, but that was like putting earrings on a pig...

The stadium needs a new paintjob and other wonderful things...

Like maybe a football team to play there. Maybe Hoover could move in, since no one else is there.

Yeah, it's pretty dismal in the self-proclaimed "Foohbawl Capital of the South."

If it's the Sammy's Bowl, the biggest boob of all'd have to be there.

or maybe birmingham will get a professional team. maybe uh, the wfl, usfl, cfl or xfl will consider putting a team there.

I saw an XFL game there. What a letdown. I don't even remember who they played, who was on the team, who was the coach. Nothing.

The XFL gave us three things: 1) Tommy Maddox; 2) He Hate Me; 3) the over-the-field skycam. Only the skycam is worth a **** and still in use in the NFL.
