Because some people cling far too tightly to English as it is now, or as they learned it as children. The really funny part was the arguments that some changes would not be logical. Ask anybody who has tried to learn English as a second language if logic applies.

People cling to tightly to language as they learned? What kind of pace for language change was this hip professor advocating?
Rewriting the rules of grammar in a generation is pretty cutting edge.
And I wasn't saying that a change is logical or illogical in and of itself. I am saying that to advocate for one change because it harkens back to a root language of more than 1,000 years ago while at the same time ignoring the other ways in which English does not follow the rules of that root language would be illogical.

I did not bring up the roots of the English language on this thread nor did I mention how the professor I spoke of felt about it from that perspective. You are mixing up my posts with those of others.

I don't know why I'm continuing forward on this fruitless endeavor.

Because you're in love with "Mark" and Secretariat and can't help but show your devotion to them at every opportunity?

Puppy love is so cute. EVentually you'll grow out of it and look back at this stage of your life with some embarrassment.
Serious question, do all three of you guys post hot-seat style?
Or did Dad splurge for three computers this time?
You know, somebody's actually going to have to clean up the ball-sweat stench of your shared chair.

Not one of those three sentences made a lick of sense to me.

I think he's saying we're all losers who live in our parents' basement. But our parents are the same. Which means we're brothers. So can I borrow some money? I'm sure you have more than me.
