Complete with reference to potential franchises in Birmingham & Memphis

So long as they are willing to be a "spring league" or a "minor league" and associate themselves with the NFL only in terms of the alumni they send to the NFL, this business model has a chance to succeed. What they need to do is to stay away from area codes with existing NFL franchises. To the extent possible, they might want to stay away from MLB franchise areas too in order to get a foothold with minimal competition.

Odds on the league staging at least one game. 100-to-1?

I think your odds for staging only one game are a bit too high. Would you really take the bet if someone - not I - walked up to you and put $1K on the table and wanted you to cover it?

Hasn't this exact same story been floating around for several years now?

I agree.

We've seen this dog and pony show before. Sort of like the XFL.

Yeah, a number of spring leagues have been floated out there and never happened.

If the idea made business sense, the NFL would probably fund it itself.

No, I mean the exact same story: "new version of the USFL."

Apparently nobody's been able to get enough suckers to buy in.

I don't know about this league, but it would be nice if Kansas City had a football team again.

LMAO. And of course, Memphis is there, offering itself as the latest sports failure-to-be.

I have a friend who did PR for one of the PIFL teams and I remember the stories about teams forfeiting games because they couldn't make payroll and I think one team folded in the middle of the season and players were quitting left and right...
