I know this was alluded to earlier, but I just saw it tonight on si.com so I thought I'd post it-Eddie Johnson rejected an offer to play for Derby. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/soccer/07/24/wizards.johnson.ap/index.html

Why would he want to be average to above-average in the Premiership, when he can dominate in MLS? The lack of ambition is troubling. But maybe it's just that it's Derby County making the offer.

If it's purely out of lack of ambition, that's one thing. What if he's genuinely happy, though?

Same thing with Donovan. People seem to conveniently forget that these players have lives to live outside of their job. If they're in a good situation, both professionally and personally, where they are, why throw all that away just so SoccerFan can live vicariously through them?

He makes about 900k from MLS. Maybe the price difference isn't worth it to him. I'm guessing that they want him to sign at least a 4 year deal and the salary decreases if Derby goes down.

If he continues to play well in MLS this season, the January transfer window in Europe may bring better offers.

nice to see the Galaxy show a little bit of heart last night against Pachuca in the SuperLiga. There was actually a Landon Donovan sighting as he scored the winner.

Donovan also swung a great crossfield ball to Alan Gordon for LA's opening goal. His goal was a little lucky, but again, he looked motivated to play.

And Houston's one goal is enough, although they seemed to create more chances and maybe should have added a second before full time.

At the end, however, they were toying with America, knocking the ball around as the "Ole's" went up around the stadium. Very impressive performance.

He would probably have an out-clause if they're relegated. Most guys who are worth a damn do.

It would be nice to see him go, but he still seems content to stay with LA and Beckham for now.

L.A. has a problem next year. In order to keep Landon Donovan on the team, they need to acquire a second DP slot. In order to do so, they would need another team to give that slot up. What does LA have that other teams would want in order to give up the DP? I honestly don't think they have very much.

Now, of course, Garber could just change rules on the fly (which has already been done with the DP this year). It wouldn't be too fair, but it would be interesting.

I can also see Landon playing with Beckham this year and then exploring options in the EPL during the winter transfer period. MLS would receive a purchase price. LA keeps a star attraction in Beckham. Landon goes to Europe like everyone has been pining for. It would be very interesting to see.

Donovan to expansion San Jose for a few guys they pick up in expansion draft as well as draft picks and money? Wouldn't be a bad way to restart that franchise, with an old hero ...
